The Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Scholarship is open to students who create art, writing, or film about ocean conservation.
Bow Seat is the world's largest environmental youth program with a creative arts focus. The organization provides a platform for students to connect, create, and communicate on behalf of planet Earth. One of their most far-reaching efforts is the Bow Seat scholarship, which aims to spread awareness about environmental factors impacting the world's oceans.

Apply for the Ocean Awareness Contest

Deadline: 6/8/2026 Scholarship Details: The Ocean Awareness Contest is open to students between 11 and 18. Students are invited to learn about the climate crisis and its impact on oceans; discover or imagine solutions at local, national, or global scales; and create work that explores hope in action. Submissions are accepted in visual art, creative writing, film, interactive and multimedia, music, dance, poetry, and spoken word. Entries may be submitted by an individual or a group of unlimited size. If you submit as a group, there must be one group leader who will serve as the group's contact person. Ten winners will receive scholarship money from Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs, Inc.. The contest is divided into two levels, Junior and Senior Divisions. • Ages 11-14: Junior Division • Ages 15-18 Senior Division
Five prizes will be awarded to each division. Prize levels are as follows: • Gold - $1,000 Junior Division • Gold - $1,000 Senior Division • Silver - $750 Junior Division • Silver - $750 Senior Division • Bronze - $500 Junior Division • Bronze - $500 Senior Division • Pearl - $250 Junior Division • Pearl - $250 Senior Division • Honorable Mention - $100 Junior Division • Honorable Mention - $100 Senior Division • Five, $500 We All Rise Prizes We All Rise Prizes will be awarded to U.S. students who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino, in both age divisions.

How to Qualify for the Ocean Awareness Contest

To be eligible, you must be a student aged 13-18. This scholarship contest is open to U.S. and international students.

How to Apply for the Ocean Awareness Scholarship

Share your climate story through art, writing, performance, film, or multimedia. Students may choose from seven categories: • Visual Art: Handcrafted • Visual Art: Digital • Creative Writing • Film • Interactive and Multimedia • Performing Arts: Music and Dance • Poetry and Spoken Word You'll submit a written reflection along with your creative piece (all categories). Scholarship judges will use this to understand your work and personal perspective. The 2026 winners will be announced in November.
