What is Computer Science?

Computer science is the study of computers and computational systems, with scientists focusing mostly on software and software systems. Concentrations in this field include: • Artificial Intelligence – Many individuals already depend on AI, like Siri and Alexa, to help them throughout their days and busy schedules. Studying AI in college will cover machine learning, deep learning, and neural networks. Initial work in this field may be creating chatbots or virtual assistants for webpages. • Programming Languages and Logics – Programming languages is writing language to create computer programs, while programming logics is writing rules for the system. Both drive programming outcomes.
Scientific Computing and Applications – This field takes applied mathematical techniques and models physical systems and applications. In classes, students will learn mathematical skills and theories. • Systems – This branch of computer science studies, analyzes and creates systems, from conceptualization to implementation. • Theory of Computation – This branch studies problems that can be solved on a model of computation. It utilizes algorithms to figure how to solve the problem and to what degree it can be solved.
The above disciplines are just a sampling of those found within the computer science field as a whole. As you research this major and search for colleges, you will be able to identify a track that is just right for you.
