What can I do with a $500 scholarship?
Students oftentimes only apply for major awards, like the
Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway or the
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program. While you should definitely apply for these major awards, you shouldn’t restrict your scholarship search and application to big scholarships only.
The biggest reason is that $500 won in a scholarship is $500 less that you’ll have to borrow to pay for your education. Plus, $500 is typically enough to cover textbooks and supplies for a semester, which is a huge savings for any student.
Second, application pools for smaller awards are typically less competitive, meaning you have a greater chance of actually winning. So when it comes to applying to scholarships and increasing your chances of winning, don’t limit your applications to certain types of awards; apply for all.
