Psychology

Psychology majors spend four years studying human behavior and mental experiences. Within this major are several subcategories: social behavior, cognition, personality disorders, developmental conditions, etc. Students will learn how to engage in psychological research and human problem solving.

Typically, psychology majors go on to become counselors, psychologists, sociologists, doctors and teachers. Students in this major are accustomed to writing a lot of papers and studying primarily behavioral subject matter, rather than the sciences, although basics are required for graduation.

With a master’s degree in psychology, students can go on to work in law enforcement, family therapy, victim advocacy, veteran counseling and even in business. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports an estimated growth of 25% in mental health and substance abuse counselors through the year 2029. There’s also a growing need for risk assessors and counselors within law enforcement agencies across the United States.
