Computer and Information Sciences

Nearly every American today has a computer of some sort, whether that’s a phone, a laptop, a newer car or even some refrigerators, all of these run on computers. Computer science is the study of computers, artificial intelligence and the languages that operate them.

Since almost everything today is computerized this is a very in-demand major. Students can drill deeper into subcategories of computer science as well, things like: software engineering, app development, programming, server-side administration and even computing and automation in health care.

Students who go on to study computer science in a graduate capacity can expect to take on administrative or senior-level management positions in product development or engineering departments at major companies across the globe. One of the most lucrative positions one can have today with a major in computer science is a full-stack developer. Full-stack developers handle not only the backend of web development, but the front end that visitors see as well. This versatile position is in high demand today and a great route to take for anyone ambitious about programming.
