FDA Postgraduate Microbiologist Fellowship

The FDA Postgraduate Microbiologist Fellowship is available to students who have completed a bachelor's or master's degree in a life health or medical sciences-related field. You must be a U.S. citizen, have an excellent academic record, and possess strong communication skills to be eligible for this internship. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in the areas of general and food microbiology, food science and food processing, and operation of equipment used to process foods as well as experience in the use of assays and techniques including conventional/molecular assays for detection, identification, enumeration, and characterization of pathogens in food, growth rate determination, genotyping, and metabolic profiling. As a fellow, you will be trained in the use and analysis of thermal processing, and under the supervision of the mentor, will investigate the factors influencing the effectiveness of thermal processes such as drying, baking and roasting, and other preventive controls on enhancing the microbial safety of low moisture foods. This fellowship is located in Bedford Park, IL.
