Description

The Smithsonian Office of General Counsel Internship is available to law students. To be considered for this opportunity, you must submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample. Legal interns in the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) work closely with attorneys whose work covers such diverse topics as tax, employment discrimination, ethics, imports/exports, federal appropriations, intellectual property, and environmental law. Interns will gain exposure to the office's diverse law practice through litigation and transactional work, client counseling, case law research, preparing legal memoranda, reviewing agreements, surveying state law, and researching legislative history. When possible, interns will be invited to attend hearings, depositions, and meetings. OGC hosts up to two law students each semester. Students may join OGC on a part-time or full-time basis and often receive law school credit for their OGC work.
