Description

The McMullan Arts Leadership Internship is available to undergraduate and graduate students as well as to recent graduates. To be considered for this opportunity, you should reside in the Chicagoland area, have interest in building collection management skills, and have interest and working knowledge in the historical display of artists and artworks from the SWANA region and broader Islamic and Arab worlds in American museums. As an intern, you will focus on the study and collection management of textile’s holdings in 18th- and 19th-century Ottoman Turkey, as well as other textiles created in Turkey as time allows. You will assist the Associate Curator, Textiles with updating the catalog and documentation of the collection, condition assessments in collaboration with textiles conservation colleagues, and contributing reference terms and texts in languages other than English (Turkish, Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, or others) as possible. You may also focus on research and collection documentation for embroidered textiles from the North Africa / Southwest Asia regions in support of plans for an upcoming exhibition.
