South Carolina Aquarium - Senior Veterinary Student Externship

Description

The South Carolina Aquarium on Charleston Harbor offers a Senior Veterinary Student Externship for college students who are in their fourth year of studies. Participants must have a strong interest in aquatic medicine and husbandry and will be expected to work 30-40 hours per week with husbandry staff and consulting veterinarians for 5-6 weeks. The extern will learn about the daily duties of veterinary staff, quarantine design, life support system design, nutrition, husbandry, and medicine and surgery for aquarium animals. Externs must also complete and make a presentation on a self-directed research paper or project and participate in a short aquarium orientation program with volunteers.
