Description

The Maryland Zoo Horticulture Internship is available to students 18 years of age and older who are studying horticulture and related fields. To be considered for this role, you should possess a basic understanding of plant care and basic landscaping skills, be able to perform plant identification, lift 35 pounds and walk large areas of the zoo as needed, and safely operate a variety of machines and equipment including computer, telephone, radio, vehicles, hand tools, gardening tools, machinery, etc. As an intern, you will work daily to keep invasive species at bay on the 160-acre campus, and to maintain the beauty, health, and authenticity of exhibits and public areas. You will gain insight into the operations of horticulture and zoological landscaping through training, shadowing and hands-on experiences. You will also participate in a plant record keeping, using an established GPS/tagging system. This internship is offered in Baltimore, MD, during the summer.
