The Thomas J. Watson Fellowship is available to seniors graduating from a participating college or university who wish to pursue one year of independent international study. You must have a background in the social sciences or humanities and have excellent writing and communication skills to be eligible for this award.

Winners of this award will participate in an internship for 12 to 15 weeks during the summer at a Washington, DC, office of the Aspen Institute.

Provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program is available to graduate-level students, particularly females and minorities who are interested in independent research in oceanography, marine biology or maritime archaeology.

You must be a U.S. citizen currently pursuing or intending to pursue a masters or doctoral level degree in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology and must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

Priority will be given to applicants who are interested in studying fisheries and coastal ecosystems; coastal navigation, hazard response and management; and geological dynamics and biogeochemical cycles.

You must have strong research, writing and organizational skills and a willingness to work in a professional office. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment is critical.

Familiarity with HIV-related issues and the legislative process is preferred. People of color, women, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, and HIV positive individuals are encouraged to apply.
