The City of Spartanburg Juneteenth Essay Contest is open to current high school senior students who are residents of Spartanburg, South Carolina. To be eligible for this award, you must submit a 500-750 word essay addressing the following: "Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, but its significance continues to evolve in modern times. In what ways does Juneteenth serve as a reminder of both progress and ongoing challenges in the fight for racial justice and equality? Discuss the historical roots of Juneteenth, its cultural significance today, and how individuals and communities can use this day to reflect, educate, and take action." Three winners will be selected: $1,000 for First Place, $750 for Second Place, and $500 for Third Place.
