June 2026 Scholarship Opportunities
Keep the scholarship search momentum going as summer begins.
The school year is over, but the scholarship search season is not. Many students opt out of the scholarship search over the summer months, but neglecting these applications can be costly. Read on to find out why summer is one of the best seasons to look for scholarships, learn how to stay on track, and explore some of our favorite June scholarships worthy applying for right now.

Why June is the Best Month for Scholarship Applicants

Many students believe the summer months are too late to apply for scholarships. But the truth is that a student can win a scholarship for college anytime.
During the summer months, many one-time-per-year scholarship awards open in June. Incoming freshmen and other undergraduates can get more scholarship applications before the next academic year starts. And rising high school seniors can get a head start on their senior scholarship search.

What Kinds of Scholarships are Available in June?

Summer scholarship opportunities vary. You’ll find awards in all the following categories:
Study Abroad: Roughly 10% of American students complete a study abroad semester during their college years. For that reason, there are scholarships specific to study abroad semesters – many with summer deadlines. • Essay Contests and Creative Competitions: These types of awards are available year-round and summer is no exception. Get your creative juices flowing and have fun with these creative, summer scholarships. • Incoming Freshman and Transfer Students: It’s big summer for both incoming freshmen and transfer students. Change is on the horizon, and to help with the transition, many scholarship providers offer last-minute opportunities for these student groups. • STEM, Healthcare, and Trade/Vocational Field-Specific: These particular fields have very fluid academic calendars. Many students begin their academic training in these fields throughout the entire year. As such, there are scholarships available in every season for STEM, healthcare, and trade/vocational students. • Civic, Community, and Service-Recognition: Many local organizations are wrapping up the graduation season and may have some last-minute awards to hand out. Check your local community boards and ask your school counselor for any ideas on places to look. • Identity- and Affinity-Based: Finally, summer is a big season for recognizing different identity and affinity-based groups. May ends with recognizing military families and veterans for Memorial Day, June celebrates the LGBTQ+ community through Pride Month, and July recognizes those with disabilities.

5 Ways to Make the Most of the June Scholarship Season

To make the most of your free days and capitalize on your scholarship search, follow these five, easy steps: Step 1: Use summer downtime to build (or refresh) your scholarship tracker. When was the last time you updated your Fastweb profile? Updating your profile frequently will help us find scholarships that match all of your qualifications and achievements. Updating after the school year is an especially important time. Step 2: Update your personal statement now. The fall season will be busy with the start of school. Something you can finish now? Your personal statement. If you already have a personal statement, be sure to update it with last year’s extracurriculars, achievements, and lessons learned. Step 3: Ask for letters of recommendation now. You know who else has free time right now? Your teachers, coaches, and mentors. Asking them to write your letter of recommendation now will allow them to spend time and energy crafting a great response. Remember to send along your resume to help them write the letter. Step 4: Search for awards tied to your intended major or career field. As you navigate the college search as well as your college experience, it’s important to research majors and careers that you may be interested in. At the same time, look for scholarships that reward those who are aspiring in the field. Step 5: Set a recurring weekly reminder to browse Fastweb for new June listings. What is the top advice that scholarship winners share? Consistency is key. Search your Fastweb Scholarship Matches frequently for awards that interest you and commit to applying to 1 -2 per week this month.
