The David J. Hallissey Memorial Undergraduate or Graduate Internship is open to sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students pursuing a travel and tourism degree with an interest in marketing research as it relates to marketing. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills. You must also have a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel (a requirement) and have knowledge of Microsoft Access and SBSS software (a preference but not a requirement). The intern will be working in the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Research Department in the Washington, D.C. (Alexandria, VA) area. This internship covers the fall semester 2010 (with specific dates to be arranged between the student and the office), and the $2,000 scholarship award is to support the internship and related expenses. The intern's basic duties will be assisting in conducting surveys with a research panel using internet-based software, and research and analysis of issues affecting the travel industry. And it will also include some administrative tasks, such as data entry and constructing charts/tables. The emphasis of this internship is the education of prospective managers and leaders in the packaged travel and tourism industry in order to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the components of the travel industry.
