Does anyone know about the new FAFSA rules for paying back loans if you major in public service jobs such as teaching?

While looking around a couple of years ago, I found valid government programs online to get loans repaid for teaching, nursing.  With nursing, you had to go to certain areas where help was needed to get repayment for a period of time.  Seemed like a contract deal.  Not sure how the teacher program worked as I was not interested.

You may do better looking the info up yourself - word of mouth online is frequently incorrect.  You could try typing in these words to an internet search:  teacher  loan  program  .gov

goodluck!

I know that instead of the usual 25 year repayment period, you only have 10 years. So, you only have to make 120 payments. If you stay full-time at your job and you make your payments on time, then the rest of your principal and interest just gets wiped away. It's like it never existed!

My mom told me that they used to forgive loans if you taught in specific needed field or in places that they couldn't get teachers.
