Posted 4 months ago I would check out VolunteerMatch.com sooooo many organizations who need volunteers post there. You could also search for non-profits in your community that suit your interests. What kinds of things are you passionate about??? are there specific ages you work better with?? Are there certain types you can relate better to??? Do you just want to assist people or are you looking to make some social change??? I can help better if you reply to those questions!! good luck, i'm sure you'll find something!! =)

Posted 4 months ago (Hold on your hat. I havn't attended college yet so I don't know how to make this paragraph easier to read. On a side note...... Most colleges are not intrested in someone who tries many very different things. Rather they look for someone who has ambition or a passion for a particular thing. In other words, you don't need to be involved in your school play, on the swimming team, and volenteering at the homeless shelter. If you can to everything, go on ahead, but it is usually better if you don't. Instead, if your intrest is acting or being part of a stage crew, get in as many plays as you can. If you like swimming, join a team, compete, or become a life guard (which would also help you earn money). If you like helping the homeless...you probably have the idea. This will show colleges that you understand what you like or want and sticks to it. For them this is good news-they see a student who wants a college education and willstick to it i.e. not drop out and make their school look bad. Also an ambitionous student who pursues a certain field or activity is more likely to become "importent" later as a company owner or movie star. And a college wants to be able to caim that person as their alumnus (graduate).

Posted 4 months ago JacquelineG186 If your looking for a long term community service, you may want to look around and see if your school offers an AmeriCorps Program. It not only has monthly pay, it also grants you a service award/ stipend ($1,000 +) for tour accepted college upon the completion of your contracted hours. I know, I know, it sounds like a lot, but believe me its worth the time. Keep in mind, if your really into the program, it is offered throughout colleges. I hope this information will be able to help you!!

Posted 4 months ago A great way to get community service hours is by coaching youth sports. My sons helped coach their younger brother in baseball and basketball. The kids loved it and the my college aged sons gained knowledge and respect for youth coaches!

Posted 4 months ago I strongly recommend the Salvation Army and here is why. I am 50 yrs old and in 1973 or 74 there were two articles in our local paper about 4 days apart. One was how the American Cancer Society was paying an Administrative Secretary 53 Thousand a year for her position. At that time that salary was equal to Comptrollers, Chairman of the Board postions. Cancer at that time had no hope of remission or recovery. Research was costly as it always will be, but that kind of salary was uncalled for in any charity. Then several days later came an Article about The Salvation Army. The Head of the Operations in Phoenix AZ only made 12 thousand a year. The article included the salarys and I mean humble salaries of other department heads, secretary's and other kinds of office staff. My dad called them to confirm the news paper article and we visited their main offices combination boarding rooms and meeting place. Their accomadations were met. Donated furniture and desks, office equipment in good shape. Nothing matched, but all was put in to use and not overly furnished. They worked with people and situations one on one and created an atmosphere of hope and acceptance that people could move forward. We learned a very real truth in the responsibllity of how resources are effectively used and accounted. I saw that the writer of the Article was right. "They do more with less". I never forget them and remember the Bell ringers at Christmas with a good donation. I know my money is well used and carefully spent.
