So overwhelmed...should I get a job?

Posted 3 months ago I'm a high school senior - full time student. Involved in church three times a week, national honor society and volunteer requirements, lots of extracurriculars. I'm responsible to buy a car, my parents lost a lot of money , and while before they could pay for my college, now they really can't. I would love to go to a private college, but I don't think I can - I've got a 3.7 GPA and 1910 SAT composite; not enough to get any major scholarship. Apparently, if I can earn 11,000$ in nine months and then keep that up through school, and take out about a third of tuition in loans, I can go to my dream school.. I feel so overwhelmed right now. Is this a really unrealistic dream or should I go for it? |

| Posted 3 months ago I don't feel that going to your dream school is an unrealistic notion. 3.7 is a very good GPA, one you can definitely win scholarships with. Obviously, you have a lot of responsibilities and expenses already, so I doubt you'll be able to earn enough money for school by working vs. applying for scholarships. There really are a lot of scholarships out there, especially for people with limited funds and your scores, which really are pretty good, and all those extrcurricular activities and volunteer work. Don't get discouraged and give up, you've got a good shot at quite a few scholarships with what you already have! |

| Posted 3 months ago so let's recap... you have a 3.7 GPA and 1910 SAT composite score... and you're involved in church, NHS, extracurriculars and community service... I say don't go for a job. If you're that overwhelmed right now, getting a job will make it worse. There should be scholarships out there for you. Have you tried collegeboard.com or zinch.com? |

| Posted 3 months ago Thank you to all who replied. :) I have used both Zinch and College Board. my dad is working with a local guidance counselor to access local scholarships, though. thank you all for your advice! I will take you up on it. :) |
