| Posted 19 days ago The professor is always going to think that they are better than you.If you don't do something you won't get anything done.If it doesn't effect your grades in the class don't bother it though. |

| Posted 16 days ago I am as white as it gets, but I'm always really embarrassed when I have a teacher who is racist or thinks your race decides your intelligence. I have had teachers I did not get along with, and they couldn't say anything to me because I did the work and did it well. Just give them your best, the best you'd give any teacher and leave it at that. Do you have siblings? If you do, you must have learned to let their opinions bounce off of you and not bother you. If not, I suppose it's time to learn. There will always be people who treat you unfairly, be it because of race or assumptions. |

| Posted 16 days ago I think as a "brown person" that you need to consider the fact that the professor has not realized that he/she is doing something you consider wrong. Some times I think we get to sensitive and look for the slightest sign of racism. |

| Posted 16 days ago Its very unprofessional to automatically "assume" that the teacher is racist. Give it some time.... This is coming from a "brown" person's view as well. |

| Posted 16 days ago I suggest you slap the professor and claim it was an emotional defensive response to ridiculous levels of ignorance. |

| Posted 15 days ago Moorishbey, do you have an advisor or accomplished professional or a fellow student that would look at your work before turning it in? Your title indicates that you have spelling challenges. How is your command of English? Have you checked out the Writing Lab at your school for help? Written work often portrays a negative image of the author if it's not done well. Consider your approach; assault will not get you positive results. Don't accept abuse at all. Best to you. |

| Posted 14 days ago professors like this usually want to be humiliated by their lack of knowledge. dont act ignorant towards them just because they think your un able to learn. just laugh at them and prove them wrong by staying on top of your game |

| Posted 14 days ago how do you know he's picking on you because of your skin color? You should consider all the possibilities before making an accusation such as that one. Maybe try a little harder on your work, study more, ask friends for help. Regardless you should let the professor know how you feel and your opinion, perhaps in a non-confrontational manner, and hopefully the way he acts towards you will change.
Good luck! |

| Posted 14 days ago As a person of color I feel for you, but you have to pick your battles. Sometimes it is easier to just shine it on than to be confrontational. Do your work to the best of your abilities and focus on success. The time to settle the score is at the end of the class when you can review your prof' performance. If you don't get to do a review then file a complaint. No point in letting one ignorant person antagonize you to the point that it affects your education and GPA. At the end of the term your the one that is going to be moving on to better things while your prof teaches; being perpetually trapped behind his/her closed mind. I've been in tough situations with professors and it can be a real motivation killer if you let it get to you. Keep your head up and kill him/her with your work ethic. |

| Posted 11 days ago The options you stated: Slap senselessly in the future, or continue to verbally harass means that right now when you disagree of feel slighted that you are verbally harassing your professor? Perhaps the cultural trait to harass may be the issue. I was a student 25 years ago and am back furthering my education in my fourties and I am amazed at what a student will say to a professor, or ask for from a professor. When I asked a fellow students they felt as though they were owed some special treatment for some reason or other. They assumed it was all about them. My advise - cease verbally assaulting the professor Be an objective, active student and do your best. If racism is CLEARLY an issue, the be sure to bring it up following the chain of command - or the support system in your school. But don't assume it's racism simply because your professor is white - would you not be using race yourself to determine his/her personality type? |

| Posted 3 days ago You should not take a violent approach. Verbal assault is not good either. I suggest that you do all that you can so that he has no reason but to give you an A on research papers and other assignments. Maybe you should ask the professor what his reasoning is for giving you the grade and criticism he gave, so that you may improve upon it. Usually, this is all that it takes. By asking him face to face, he should realize that you care about the grade that he gives you, and so he might be more willing to help you if you approach him that way.But if he gives you low grades, and gives no explanation, then you need to go to someone you believe can help you solve the problem, such as a professor of a similar subject, or the head of that department. Tell them of how you have work very hard in this class, and are not receiving any positive grading for it. Show them an example, like your research paper that he criticized you on and graded low. I'm sure that if they briefly look over it, and you worked hard on it, they will agree in your favor and will address the problem. If, however, you feel the problem is still not solved after talking with the head of the department, then maybe you need to go to someone even higher up who is not only unbiased but also as a strong sense of equality. I'm sure that by finding someone like this, you will be able to find a solution to prove your mettle. Yeah, it may seem like tattling, but would you rather be the A student who whines or the C student who let others push him over? I hope this helps you out. I really don't appreciate situations like this, especially when the minor student (ie. black, brown, female) is not given the credit they deserve, especially when others within the class might need the criticism more than the minor student. |

| Posted 1 day ago Wow it always has to be about skin color. Give it a rest. In this day and age NO ONE conciders you unintelligent just because of skin color any more. That's why this country is riddled with doctors and lawyers and CEO's who are the same color as you. Honey it isn't your skin color. Why does it always boil down to just because you're black you think everyone who doesn't give you an easy ride is because they are racist. Try a little harder on your work. Violence solves nothing and will more than likely get you booted out of school. While I do agree it is fun to verbally lash out at someone, you better make dang sure that prorfessor is racist and had it out for you, before you go and do something you may regret. |

| Posted 1 day ago Ok I am not black/brown. I am just plain white. But look at past history with me please. Colin Powell, Frederick Douglass, Nelson Mandela, Condaleeza (sp?) Rice, Whitney Houston, the African Americans who fought in WWII and recieved the medal of honor, Martin Luther King, Jr., etc. It doesn't matter what colour you are, you can be intelligent no matter what. Yes there are some black/brown people that can act dumb, but I know just as many white people who are like that. So I am just going to inform you that, at least in my mind, it doesn't matter what colour you are and I think that those professors are just being dumb.
And to comment on the last post- yes some people do still care about skin colour. That will never go away and everyone just has to accept that. |
