They say there are grants out there for people to help with school and home but yet they are so hard to find and now with Obama telling us that grant money is available to mothers that want to go back to school, well i ask this question what about the parents that no longer have little children in the home but still need their parents help but because they do not have the right education they can not get a good  because the loans that they offer is more than you want to take on because by the time you graduate the loan is more then the you wnat to take on after school. so i would like to know how and where to get the correct information to get and receive grants to help with the education i so richly want.

Obama was mainly talking about the federal grants, the most recognized one is the Pell grant.  There are a few others out there but for the most "free" money your best bet is scholarships, or if you or your husband is working check on tuition assistance from work.  But few schools are cheap enough for people to pay only with grants, most need loans, too.  I know the amount of loans can be scary, but lenders offer many ways to pay them back, and the Federal Stafford loans have the best interest rate around.  If you make just $3 more an hour you'll make $500 more a month.  I got my Masters degree and I don't pay that much a month on my student loans.

If you know which school you want to attend make an appointment with their Financial Aid Department, they'll make the process easier.

I am presently unemployed (6 mos) looking to get my Masters after receiving Bachelor's 26 yrs ago.  Do I apply for financial aid first even if I don't know what school I can get into?  Unfortunately the Obama plan will not help me (obtaining a Masters in Social Work).  I looked at the application for FAFSA and if they look at my income from last year I don't know if they will give me aid.  Does income a big factor for determining your eligible aid?  I know I have a lot of questions.

Please help!!!

I applied for financial aid on Fafsa before I even applied to college.  I was told that I would be under no obligation to attend college if applied for financial aid on Fafsa.  I am eligible for The Pells Grant.  I will also be able to apply now that I am in the system.  I will be eligible for a second grant this summer.  I had to use my income since I am currently employed full time.

It seems like with grants you have to download some type of software or something. I've been looking for them on the net but to no avail. Are there any online applications for grants?
