Posted 24 days ago I keep changing my mind, almost everyday. I have WAY to many interest and feel very passionate about all of them. (Theatre, photography, music, writing, film/television, aviation, and nursing/medicine). My original plan was to become an English teacher. However, I just started to get into the Nursing area more and am reading/teaching my self a bunch of stuff and find it very interesting. I still however, have my ultimate passion for theatre. I want to go to Tisch school for Dramatic arts VERY bad but I feel I also, because of the times need a career that can support myself.
Perhaps if I got into the Tisch School Of Arts, and I did volunteer EMT work on the side, do you feel that would be a good alternative. Because once, I get my degree in theatre if I persue that route, I would move to LA and audition for film and television but would need to support my self so I feel perhaps doing EMT work, would be able to keep myself alive by paying for just the basics? Do you think it's possible or do you have ANY suggestions at all!!

| Posted 24 days ago Make a list of your interests. For each item on the list, write the Pros and Cons but leave out its impact on other ideas. This can help weasel out some now-obvious bad choices. Take what you have left on the list (even if it's the whole list) and ZOOM OUT. Do all these things have a common ground? If so, what is it? For example, nursing and teaching are helping/people jobs. Do you want to help people? If that's the case, do you help people already? And if so, how? Maybe that's your calling. Also, take into consideration the classes it would take to get you into a certain position. Can you pass them? Will they keep you interested? Personally I suggest against going to the Tisch School Of Arts and getting into film/television while doing EMT work on the side to pay living expenses. Whatever you choose to do should have your full, undivided attention. If you have concerns that giving something your undivided attention will cause you to go broke, then add that to the Cons list above. Try to pick something you are confident that you can excel in. All the career options you mentioned can bring in money (except EMT), you just have to be good at it. You could be the head of the English department at a school where you teach. You could become a head registered nurse and bring in tons of money at some cutting edge facility. You could even be the next big acting celebrity. Really what it all comes down to, what are you BEST at? |

| Posted 24 days ago Being an EMT part time is not a good idea, especially while you are in school. EMT's have fast pace and high stress levels. Also if you are working at night, when would you study? I admire your dedication to want to service the community. Nursing is an awesome profession and are in desperate need right now. You can get your 2 year RN degree, but I highly recommend a 4 year degree. Once you get that BS in nursing the world truly is your oyster. Once you start your clinicals for your nursing degree the hours are very long and you are on your feet all day. be warned. I wish you well and a lot of luck! |
