I've been considering becoming a physician assistant, but I'm not sure what I should major in. I know I need my bachelor's degree before I enter the PA program, but what do you think would be the best thing to major in? I've thought about majoring in biology, but I'm starting to think it might be a better idea to major in nursing before entering the PA prgoram. I don't know what to do.

Just discuss it with your counselor. I also considered that major and yes it would be a good idea to major in nursing, but you dont have to. Just do what you love and you'll be fine.

My undergrad major was Bioscience Research, but if I had to do it again, I would major in nursing. Why? PA schools are competitive and require a LOT of healthcare experience (the good once anyway)... If you don't get accepted right away, you can work as a nurse, make good money, get your experience and reapply again. You also have an option of going to Nurse Practitioner Master program if you want or becoming Nurse Anesthesia etc. Many options, no time wasted and paid health care experience. (I volunteered for a year toget it!)

Good luck

Who says you need to have your BA before you become a PA? There are programs out there at the Associate Degree level - aka Community College. I would suggest the same route that my son was advised: major in something you enjoy learning about AND / OR something that comes easily to you so that you will have a higher GPA.  The other option is to become a Nurse Practitioner (RN-P or RN-FP, depending how it is called in your state) - they are pretty much the same as PA, although some places are more comfortable with the RN-P -- and sometimes the RN is more flexible for future career options. Good luck!
