alright so like most people i'm in debt...but i was wondering what would be the best method for me to get out of it.

i think i have good enough credit for a secured loan but don't know if i have sufficient collateral...i'm a little leery about getting an unsecured personal loan because i think it's high interest rates would kill me.

i've also heard about debt consolidation loans and debt settlement

what has worked for you? and which would be the best method for me.

Debt consolidation loans work if you follow the advice of the loan officer which is to make your loan payments ontime and avoid opening more credit accounts. I had a debt consolidation loan when I was younger and the bank pays off each of your creditors included in the loan which in my case also closed these accounts and then you have just the one loan with them. The monthly payments are much lower and hopefully you can ge a lower interest rate. Debt settlement programs don't always work and some credit companies do not participate in them. Debt settlement also can look bad on your credit report to future credit providers because to them it looks like you were not reliable enouh to pay back all of your debt and they are leary of lending.

First, I think you need to do this on your own.

Check out www.daveramsey.com or any of his books.  I DO NOT agree with him 100% BUT it will get you started.  YOU have to know how to deal with this when the debt is gone or you'll be back in this spot in no time flat.  Do not pay money to a debt program, take the money you would have paid & put it directly into your debt.

The way to get out of this is really only one thing: Sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice.

You can do this!

Good luck.

hey thanks a ton for your advice...it's helped out a lot. i agree with michelle, in order to get out of debt i shouldn't be spending more money on a program that might not even work. ayy...i know what i have to do, sacrifice, i just don't want to do it sometimes.

hey but thanks again
