Posted 5 months ago Everytime that I have asked universities and colleges about how much involvement they want in extracurriculars they always say that they would rather have less extracurriculars with more leadership roles. Taking thier advice I took up a couple leadership roles with a two vice president positions and a couple committee chairs but I am still in a lot of other things. It does not seem that difficult for me but will colleges look at my work and see at less involved because of the number? Would it be better for me to list everything or leave somethings out? Also I never did any sports because they were mandatory everyday after school and I didn't want that to interfere with my other clubs. Will that make me look less well rounded? |

| Posted 5 months ago I went through this process a couple of years ago. Schools will see a mix of everything. Some kids will do a tons of things for no time at all, others will hold leadership positions, some dedicated to sports, and some with do a few things for a longer time. When I asked the colleges what they like to see I was told that doing less, for a longer time and rising to a position of leadership is more desireable than just doing things to fill up your resume. If you look at applications, many ask how many hours a week/month you spent at this activity and for how long. If you are at the point of applying you can't change what you have done - and I think your leadership is great and you should not worry about not being in sports. If You are a frehman I would suggest that you get involved in areas that you like and try and stick with them a while, try and serve in a leadership capacity if you can, and pick an area or two to dedicate your service. Then when you fill out the application, everthing will see a bit more focused and relevant. If you want to share in more detail, create an activities resume in addition to what the application may ask for- you can highlight areas that you are especially proud of or explain your role in more detail. Finally you should keep records of what you are doing in high school it is better than trying to remember later - start now frehman, I did it the hard way. My brother kept records of his activities and service along the way and he was so much better off than I was - He gives credit to the Boy Scouts for making him do it for a merit badge. |

| Posted 4 months ago MeghanH103 is right. Even though im still worried about applying to college next year, im sure that watever college i apply to is not going to look at whether you played sports or not, especially if you have strengths in other areas. (like leadership) Just make sure that you're committed to your positions or they'll think that you put all the clubs on your back just to look good for them. |

Which is something you really want to avoid.
