Posted 2 months ago I'm in my 3rd year of college, but am technically a soph. I was recently laid off of my job. It was full time, M-F and for school in spring I did night classes (the plan was to do the same this semester). However, like i said I was laid off of my job at the end of July. I searched for a few weeks for a good FT job, and when that became vain, I decided to get back into "real" college, go during the day (I'm only 21 here, and its a hell of a lot better to attend during the day). I was able to get gov't loans, though only enough to take 9 credit hours, which I am doing. I landed a job, which i started yesterday (its a call center sales job...so who knows how long that will last). I'm down to no savings and am not eligible for UI benifits (because of school), i have about $30 dollars to last me till i get paid for this new job which is in 3 weeks. Thats my current situation. With the debt thing...to make it short due to stupidity and very unfortunate curcumstances i got into about $5000 credit card debt last year. I've made ontime payments on them (till now...) but obviously haven't made any headway on them. I need to get out of debt and just friggin finish school. It frustrates me because I live...er well grew up in the "rich" are of my city, although I'm definietly not rich, just middle class. But many of my friends are. And here they are parents pay for all their school, they have all the time they need to study, literally travels the world. One spent the entire summer oversees (and this is typical), and they're set to graduate this spring. Why can't we all be so lucky right? haha.
ADVICE on 1. paying for school 2. jobs 3. most importantly getting out of debt while staying in school?? I'm at the tipping point. IE, because i haven't paid my cell phone bill in two months sprint turned of my cell this morning. |

| Posted 2 months ago It seems like you have a number of financial problems to address, so you need unravel them one at a time. I can't speak to all of your concerns, but one place to start so that this doesn't get out of control is to address your bills. Figure out who you owe money to (car insurance? phone? rent?) and write them an official letter explaining your current financial situation and inability to make payments. Assess how much you can pay and ask them to work with you on this. Also, contact your credit card company and talk to them to see what you can do. Are there any odd jobs you can land just to make a bit of cash to get you through? Looking on craigslist and such... Another thing that you've already acknowledged is that you can't live the lifestyle of many around you. Keep this in mind, so that when you do get some money you can create a strict and realistic budget for yourself. Good luck, and sorry I can't be of more use. |

| Posted 2 months ago That's great advice Christopher. One guy Garett you might have heard about is Dave Ramsey. He has a radio talk show and I think he has time on some TV channel now (I don't watch TV so I don't know anything more about it), and he has some books too. I've found his stuff really helpful. |
