I am 22 do I have to take the SAT?

Posted 2 months ago I have been out of school for awhile and have decided I crave learning and have a lot I want to do with a degree. I took the ACT but not the SAT. Someone told me if you are over 21 they do not require you to take the SAT. Is that true? Or is it a good idea to study up and take it? |

Posted 2 months ago From what I understand it really depends on the University you plan on going to to get your degree. Some Universities require that you take both tests, others only need one or the other. If you plan on going to an IVY league university, I'd take the ACT just to increase your chances of being exepted. Better to be on the safe side then to wish you had, right? :)

Posted 2 months ago I am kind of in the same boat... I am trying to transfer to a private college and never took the SAT or ACT. Since I am a community college transfer student I was told it is not required, however that would entirely depend on the school. If you think you will do well on the test and you have potential weaknesses in your application (i.e. low GPA on your transcript), I would say go for it. My admissions counselor told me that in addition to potentially increasing my chances of being admitted, a high SAT score could also help my get more scholarship aid from the school. Plus, if you are applying for any outside scholarships, SAT scores could be a deciding factor for those as well. Best of luck! :)

Posted about 1 month ago It is my understanding that your age is irrelevant when it comes to the benefits of the SAT. It is a standardized test designed to show your abilities in three areas: Critical Reading, Writing and Mathematics. It is not as though they are mandatory only for a certain age bracket or recommended for another. However, each college and university has their own specific thoughts on the SAT. Some don't really weigh it at all in the admissions process. Some use it as a tie-breaker. Some weigh it heavily. Certain technical schools and community colleges don't even care if you've taken them. So really, it all comes down to the school you're looking at - but if you're confident in your abilities, I would take the SAT even if it isn't required. Help make yourself stand out.

Posted about 1 month ago From my understanding of what the lady told me, if you take the ACT, you don't need the SAT. In fact, i was told that if you took the ACT, it was better than taking the SAT. Just what they told me. My advice, though, is to look at the entrance requirements of the college that you're looking at going to. They might tell you to take the SAT. You might even call them and talk to a live advisor and ask what he/she thinks. They are really helpful. Or, if you live close to a Technical (two year) College, it's a good way to get quality schooling (usually accepted trasnferable credits) for less than you would spend at a bigger university. (Great way to get GE's out of the way! That's what i am doing!) Hope this helps!
