| Posted 7 months ago I used a book called "The Real ACT prep guide". The 2nd edition has 3 real past ACT practice tests. There's probably books for the SAT too. The one I have was published by Peterson's and the makers of the ACT. Hope this helps! |

| Posted 7 months ago The prep books are definitley helpful, I used Kaplan to study for the critical reading section of the SAT, and my score was raised 120 points! Theres also a book called "Up Your Score" which tries to make studying for the SAT's more interesting by adding jokes and sarcasm. Some of their tips are very helpful too, like whenever you hear a word you dont know you should look it up, no matter where you are, to up your vocab for the tests. The book even shows you the fastest way to fill in the bubbles so you dont have to waste time on that. |

| Posted 6 months ago Read. BEST WAY TO IMPROVE GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY. Hands down. I know for a fact that students (like myself) who don't read often, do worse on English sections. Just fifteen minutes before bed can seriously help you. Better than cramming vocabulary the week before the SAT. |

| Posted 6 months ago Finally! another freshman! Well, if your're a nerd enough to get registered on this site for your freshman year then you're doing just fine (No offense, I'm a total geek/nerd/ whatever, and to me that's a good thing). Just try to keep your grades good and start checking out books from the library to prepare you. One book like that is called Essays that will get you into College. I'm reading it, and it will help with any scholarships you want to try for. also some schools have practice practice SAT tests for freshmen. Hope this helps! |

| Posted 4 months ago get in a SAT prep class near you, (sometimes they have it at your school like me) or just get practice from web sites like collegeboard.com that contain real SAT questions, or princetonreview.com, try to expand your vocabulary as much as you can with old proper english and get the princeton review study guides, all that will help you a lot |

| Posted 4 months ago I would suggest any type of test prep book with practice tests. Ask your counselor for an ACT/SAT practice booklet so you will know what to expect on the test day. |

| Posted 3 months ago I got a 700 on my english section on my SATs, and I owe it all to the crazy teacher who ran the SAT prep course during lunch in my high school. it sucked missing lunch with my friends but the class was invaluable. if you know of a free course in your school take it. Also I will share with you a tip she told us that helped everyone who did it with the english and writing sections: Read the New York Times editorals! As much as possible! Regardless of whether you agree with what they say or not it helps your comprehension and vocab (look up any words you dont know obv.) Take practice tests (they are boring but so is the actual test so you get used to the boredom lol) some websites (I think I used sparknotes.com) have free ones you take online.
And of course don't stress too hardcore about it. You've got a couple years so do your extracurriculars, join any clubs you like and soprts youre good at. Whatever you do, enjoy high school while you can. Believe it or not, just doing fun stuff in high school makes you look great on college apps and scholarship ones too. Community service is really good, cause you can do it in groups with friends and its more fun than a job (though I like getting $$ lol). If you do get a job try saving even just 10 bucks a check holy crap I wish I did that in high school i wouldnt have gone a semester without books O_O |

| Posted 3 months ago I am a freshman in high school, but dont let that kid you. i went to a SAT prep class on Saturdays and scored in the top percentile and this is what i learned. Skim the whole test, determine how much time you spend on each question, knock out the easy questions first, and skip the hard ones. |

This is really good advice. The key is to not get intimidated by the time limit, but account for it at the same time. I would suggest starting with the writing, because that often takes the longest and will be the most affected by a rigorous time limit. You don't have to finish it first, but get a good head start so by the time you get back to it, if you're running out of time, at least you'll have a good portion of it done, which will help balance your score. And don't forget to get a good night's sleep and make sure you eat a good breakfast in the morning! |

| Posted 2 months ago Like what other people have already said, getting your hands on the test is the best means to doing well on both the SAT and the ACT. Before I took the SAT, I made sure to attend a test prep center which put me in a testing environment that mirrored what it would be like to actually take the test. However, after taking the test twice and hardly being able to cross 2000 points (I received scores in the low 1900s twice), I decided to buy Collegeboard's SAT booklet and practice by myself, which came with around eight practice tests. After practicing with the booklet for around three weeks before the next upcoming test, I took the test and finally broke 2000 with a score of 2040. Since you are a Freshman, you do not really have to worry about taking the SAT or ACT until late in your Sophomore year, but it would be wise to introduce yourself to the SAT now through the PSAT and to take a look into some practice test booklets. By around October of your eleventh grade year, you will take the PSAT one final time which may determine if you're eligible for scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Therefore, I recommend actually studying for the SAT late in your sophomore year--probably start around April or May and practice during the summer--and take both the SAT and PSAT in the October of your eleventh grade year. Other than practice, the best way you can prepare for the test now, is to do well in all of your classes, take rigorous Honors and AP courses (but don't feel pressured to take AP, Honors is fine) and enjoy what you learn. Remember that colleges also want to see that you have a high GPA so maintaining that is necessary to getting into competitve universities. I hope you found this helpful. |

^ This. Also, as soon as you can, take the PLAN and PSAT. PLAN is the pre-ACT test. PSAT is, well, obviously the pre-SAT test. That way, you'll have an idea of what's coming up in the actual tests when you take them. :) But yes, for now, I'd suggest OriF2's suggestion. :) Other than that, maybe take an hour every day to review what you've learned that day; at the end of the week, review what you've learned in that week; at the end of the month, what you've learned in that month. Repetition improves the chances of your remembering it, of your learning it. :) |

helpp!
