No Co-signer, Bad Credit

Posted 7 months ago I have been accepted at a private university and I received a pell grant and a stafford loan. Unfortunately I am still left with tuition costs, room and board and housing. My mom applied for a Plus loan but this was not approved as she is not credit worthy. I have tried applying for several other private loans but majority of them require a co-signer that is credit-worthy. Is there something that is being overlooked? Do I have any alternatives? Someone please help! |

Talk to the financial aid office at your school and let them know that your mother's PLUS loan was denied. They will make you eligible for increased unsubsidized Stafford loan limits. |

| Posted 7 months ago Thanks I have spoken to them and they have assured me that I will be given an additional 4,000, unfortunately that still does not cut it for me. I inquired about the Perkins loan but being a private school they don't take part in this program. I still need additional funding for housing and books. Do you have any suggestions? |

| Posted 7 months ago I'm in the same situation and time is running out. isn't there anything else we can do? My mom got a Plus loan for my twin sister, but can't get one for me. Why is that? |

| Posted 6 months ago NullN570331, I'm lucky that the people at the finicnail aid office at my school were very helpful, but we had to call them about five or seven times before the gave me a perkins loan to help cut what i still owed in half. now i just have to come up with a third of it every three months. does your school have a payment plan? that might help. but you should keep calling until they find you some money. call your department head too and see if they can find you some money. good luck! |
