The school book stores are usually pretty expensive, I would try to get your books through DealOz, Amazon, Alibris, Abebooks or some other site because it will save you money in the long run because it compares pices form hundreds of sources to ge tyou the best price. Just make sure you have your ISBN: number. DealOz is my favorite

What you have to do is go to the school bookstore with your schedule and see what books are required for your class. It is a bit impossible to get the names of the books on a forum because while some of us might have used say Concepts of Biology by Joe Smith for Bio 101, others might have used a totally different book. Your best bet is to first check out the bookstore who will have used books.

If your college has a book store and they have a website, go to it. If you have your class schedule in front of you, then you can enter the class, for example Biology 10, then you would enter Biology 10 and the class section # and it will tell you what books you need. It will also tell you how much each book is. After that if your book store charges more. There are cheaper sites out there.

Chegg.com is also a good site.

Also, pay attention to all the details on the book (like edition and year printed) and research the books before you go to sites other than the bookstore. Some of the books may have just been printed, so you won't find them on the cheaper sites and you may just find older editions instead without knowing it (sometimes the information isn't always available). Make sure the sites will let you return the book if you have a problem. If your bookstore doesn't give you complete information like ISBN numbers, you can always look for the book on the publisher's website and use their information to search for used books.

I google the ISBN number and find my books online this way. Many of the times they are 60% cheaper than the book store. I have also found that even the previous edition is sufficent, depending on what was added. I know that Amazon.com will show you what is new in this edition. If there are pages that I need, usually I can find someone in the class that will let me copy the pages from their book. And it is not illegal as long as you don't copy more than 10% of the book.

Why are college books are so expensive? We use it only one semester and throw them away, or we sell it with the cheapest price. In comparasion, the school bookstores are alsways cost higher than other sources. Are the schools trying to make money as much as they can?

Try barnesandnoble.com. That is where I got my psychology book. I went to my college bookstore and got the name and all of it, then went onto barnes and noble and found it for more than half off. at the end of the semester you can even sell you book back.

There's a new site, ThomasTrade,  that allows college students to buy/trade/sell books amongst themselves. It's completely free. It just needs people to register and start posting books to get the site going. So check it out :) www.thomastrade.com

IDK. You would think they would be cheaper because it is college and you have enough to worry about. The bookstores on campus should give you a deal for your books but it seems as if you can always find them cheaper in a local bookstore.

ichapters.com is also a good site, because if your teachers tell you what chapters will be needed for the class. You can just purchase the chapters that are required. Which is really cool. Good Luck! :)

Professors often don't even use the books they list on their class info. sheets or sites.  Wait until the first few days of class and ask what books you actually need before going out and spending a fortune on them.  Josh
