Was told today to NOT look for financial aid online!

Posted 7 months ago I went to an education open house today and I talked to a few financial aid reps, and they told me you shouldn't look online for scholarships and grants because most of them are scams! And the only legitimate way was to go through the actual schools themselves. Has anyone else heard this!? Through this site I can qualify for like 15 grants and scholarships and now i'm worried to even check into them! |

| Posted 7 months ago You were told that by representatives of the schools who want you to use their services probably. Just like how you shouldn't buy books online |

I agree, the colleges want your attention, and your money when it comes to book as well. Sure its assuring knowing where your information is being sent but at the same time, it never hurts when a check is then mailed for $1,000. I search both my college's database and here on fastweb. I have never ran into a scam for money online. Most of these are legit. |

| Posted 7 months ago I agree with DylanM346. Many find legitimate scholarships online, but scams do exist. One red flag is if they ask you to pay to help you find scholarships. Legitimate services will be free. They shouldn't ask for your money. My financial aid officer at my college actually suggested Fastweb to me and informed me that people from my school have actually attained scholarships from here, but also make sure that you utilize the scholarships and grants that you qualify for at your school also. Good Luck. |

| Posted 7 months ago There are some schools that were getting kickbacks from the banks they were steering students to, for loans. Take a hard look before you apply. |
