I have applied for several scholarships through fastweb.  I never thought I would actually win one though, until I did.  My senior year of high school I applied for the Best Buy International Community Service Scholarship, and I won.  It was an international scholarship, open to seniors across the United States, and they chose a winner from each state.  They then took the top three from the United States and granted them a larger award.  Now going on my junior year in college, I still use fastweb and apply for scholarships often.

Yes some have actually been awarded scholarships, but what’s the statistics of it? My money is that it’s similar to winning the lottery.

Hi Folks:

I too was a recipient of a scholarship through FastWeb.  I felt much like Chelsey - I'll never win.  I was tired of the rejection/better luck next time letters.  I was going to give up.  However, I tried for one more scholarship and promised myself that this would be the last entry for me if I did not win this academic scholarship that I knew I was qualified for.  The grades were there, the two small essays seemed to be on point, I completed the package with everything that was required.  I was totally blown away when a large envelope was in my mailbox.  I knew instantly that I was the chosen winner.  I was ELATED!!!  It is a wonderful feeling and I will continue to submit the required information to various grantors.  I am so thankful and I want to leave you all with these words - - NEVER GIVE UP!!!

I won several scholarships that I found through this site.

Burger King Scholarship $1000

Sam Walton Community Scholarship $3000

1 local scholarship $1000

Elks Scholarship $1000

I found and won lots of other scholarships that were never on here though.  This site helped me a TON:  http://www.how2winscholarships.com

I applied for one, took only about 15 minutes because I'd already had everything written out for other apps & had letter of recommendation on hand & everything. I won the NELA Take Aim Transfer scholarship - $2000!

I put MANY hours into scholarship apps, had 6 different letters of recommendations on hand (ask each writer for 5 copies, review scholarship rules for ideas of what the letters should cover.)

I was a poor single mom with a high GPA and heavy community involvement, so I knew I was pretty marketable (I've since remarried, therefore have a higher income & have less "financial need".) I was graduating with an A.A.S. and looking to transfer to a 4-year school.

I gathered fliers from the community college FA office and made a spreadsheet showing their deadlines, how many letters or rec. were required and from whom (academic? personal?) and if essays were required. I worked on the apps through all of winter quarter, and of course completed my FAFSA in February. Out of all my apps, I had a about a 40% success rate (average for grant applications in general is about 10%.) While the community college's FA office was my primary source for scholarships, FastWeb was my second source. I also checked the local 4 year school websites' Financial Aid pages.

It is hard work applying, but it is worth it. I've had all but my last quarter of my Bachelor's degree paid for through fed/state aid & scholarships.

Read a little about writing successful grant proposals & scholarship essays; it's pretty much the same thing. After you've done a couple it gets easier. Do it. Your pocketbook (and your parents) will thank you.
