RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND PRIVATE STUDENT LOANS TO PAY FOR SCHOOL. FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOT ENOUGH TO COVER THE COSTS FOR SCHOOLING. PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION COSTS ARE STEEP SO I MAY CONSIDER ATTENDING A COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO SAVE MY SELF TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. IF ANYONE WANTS TO COMMENT PLEASE DO SO.......AND IF YOU KNOW ANY BANKS OR COMPANIES IN MISSOURI THAT HAVE INTEREST FREE STUDENT LOANS OR A REASONABLE INTEREST ON A PRIVATE STUDENT LOAN PEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!

THANKS FOR TAKING TIME OUT TO READ THIS.

I do not quite remember off the top of my head, I would have to go grab all my papers. For now I will say that there are subsidized and unsubsidized student loans. Not sure which, but one of the twos interest does not start until after you graduate. I think they run at 6 percent interest. They are available to most any student as far as i know. You do not have to start paying on them until somewhere around 6 months after graduation. The biggest they go is 6,000 for one and 3,500 for the other. Then there is also a loan called the Parent Plus Loan. This loan is only available if your parents have bad credit though. Other wards, talk to your local banks and SallieMae.

This is rather untrue as the Parents Plus Loan is only given to credit worthy parents.

Stafford Loans are the only loans where you don't need a co-signer however Parents Plus and private loans require a co-signer as they perform a credit check. If the co-signer has bad credit then you would need someone to endorse the loan for you. Of course this person should be credit-worthy.

Private skools are always a lot more expensive the public skools and they often do not offer as much financial aid. Your option to considering a public skool is much more practical if you do not have the funding to go private.

Trust me I have done a lot of research on this because I am in the same predicament.

The PLUS loan (including both the Parent PLUS loan and the Grad PLUS loan) require the borrower to not have an "adverse credit history". An adverse credit history is defined as having had a foreclosure, repossession, tax lien, wage garnishment, default determination or bankruptcy discharge in the last five years or a current delinquency of 90 or more days. So while there are no minimum credit scores for PLUS loan eligibility, PLUS loan borrowers must generally be creditworthy.

If a prospective PLUS loan borrower is denied the loan due to an adverse credit history, they can still get the loan if they have an endorser who does not have an adverse credit history. But aside from this a cosigner is not required for the PLUS loan.

If a dependent student's parents are denied the PLUS loan (just one parent denial is sufficient, actually) the student becomes eligible for increased unsubsidized Stafford loan limits, the same limits as for independent students. These limits are $4,000 higher during the freshman and sophomore years and $5,000 higher during the junior and senior years.

Most private student loans require a cosigner if the student does not have high enough of a credit score. More than three-quarters of all funded private student loans involved a cosigner in the first quarter of 2009.

With most college bound students they do not have a good credit score if any at all. And what happens to those college bound students who have lame parents and cant co sign either?? Where are they supposed to get the money?? I am trying to start my masters program and I cannot find funding anywhere... so my next option... withdrawal and wait til I have 30,000 laying around so I can afford to go to school.. who decides this shit anywyas.

I JUST FOUND OUT THAT IF YOUR PARENTS APPLY FOR THE PLUS LOAN AND THEY ARE DENIED FUNDING THEN YOU AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFY FOR AN ADDITIONAL 2,000 DOLLARS IN STAFFORD LOANS. SO THIS IS LIKE A WELL KEPT SECRET. BUT JUST HAVE YOUR PARENTS APPLY AND THEN IF THEY ARE DENIED YOU GET $2000 EASILY. AND I REA THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS...AND SOME OF THEM ARE SO UNTRUE BECAUSE YOUR PARENT HAS TO BE CREDITWORTHY TO GET A PLUS LOAN. IT'S NOT LIKE EVERY PARENT CAN GET ONE......NO THEY HAVE TO DEFINITELY QUALIFY FOR IT!!!

I have somewhat of a similar situation.

My financial aid did not cover my entire college expenses and I do not have a cosigner for private loans. I have no credit whatsoever and I will not be able to pay it in time for when this semester ends.

Also, I do not have parents or a legal guardian, so Parent loans are completely out of the question.

I can't transfer schools with that account balance becasue they will not release my transcrips.

I also cannot register for classes at the school I am at either.

I currently live in the dorms and signed a lease until May.

If I can't pay for that, I get kicked out and still have to pay for the rent, plus late fees if I cannot pay it.

I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Try not to go sallemae. Try chase student loans. Also look into credit unions they may have community loans for schools. Sallemae makes you pay the interest while you are in school now...
