Is it true that if I take out more money than I need, they'll give me the money back and I can use it for spring break?

I've known kids to blow the money on all kinds of things. Might depend on the loan though. But yeah, you can probably have a nice spring break with that student loan. Just hope the pictures are worth it when you have to look at them when you graduate and can't go anywhere 'cause you're broke.

Buy a new computer or something and put it to use. Don't blow it.

buy what you need and save the rest in a savings account like ing direct. they pay interest , its not that much but if you save your money by the time you graduate you'll have something to fall on . if you blow all the money you'll prb end up broke.

or you can invest the money wisely.

What part of the word "loan" do you not understand?

It clearly states in your promissary note to NOT spend financial aid on anything other than living expenses (food, rent, etc).  It even tells you that spending funds on a "VACATION" is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

I would say that if you get a refund from excessive financial aid you should definately put that into a CD at a bank where you can earn more money than a savings account.  Ex:  2.49% on a CD beats .04% any time of the year.  That can get you more to spend on living expences or the next term's textbooks
