Posted 8 months ago I am a Bhutanese refugee who was frocefully evicted from the country of birth confiscating all the belongings before 18 yrs. Having spent a refugee life of seventeen years under the leaky roofs of make shift huts in the bhabar belt (hot belt) of plain in Nepal which was prone to mosquito infestation and adding to it was the schorching heat from the sun, made me familar with the worst part of human life that any one would avoid to come across. On top of all above the host country , one of the poorest in the world, was in war, full of unrest due to Maoist insurgency. In the refugee camp there was no chance of personal development, career development became a distant matter. Education upto grade 10 ( High School ) was free. I did my high school in 1994. Due to lack of any financial aid I could not continue my education. I served in the refugee camp as a teacher for two and a half year. It was a voluntary service. Then I got scholarship to do 10+2 ( Higher Secondary) in Science. After the completion of the course in two yrs I started to teach in a private school in Nepal. The wage I used to get was just enough for my food and lodging. After teaching in the private school for 5 yrs. I thoght to continue my education. With the financial help by a friend from Swetzerland I started my 4 years bachelor's degree program taking up with Agricultural Engineering. I completed the course in April 2008 and under the process of resettlement I came to the US in September 2008 as a refugee. I have a bachelor degree in my hand but unable to study due to finacial problem. Now I am working a part-time job at Wal-Mart as night instock team associates. I have no way to continue my education unless I get a scholarship. There might be so many students who are talented but due to lack of opportunity haven't got chance to contunue their education. So it would be a boon if the scholarship scheme could reach to those people, like me, who are new and know less about the US. s |
