OK so I'm only a freshman in HS (this coming year) but I still need to think about it right? The problem is I have a ton that I want to do/ can do so I have to make a choice.  Here are some of my favorites:  Singing, Acting, Coaching, Soccer, Photography, Writing.

If any one has a collage or opinion please post it. Also any one else wanting to post the same thing as me from their point of Veiw feel free to.

The thing is, which one are you most passionate about?

In Singing, you should have experience outside of choir in school, such as performing else where, and having a voice teacher. And  singing is hard work. I'm a singer myself, and I've been writing music since I was 13. So if you are passionate about singing, get a voice teacher and work up from there.

Acting wise, are you interested in theatre arts? Or show business? There is a ton of rejection in acting, and auditions come and go. You may not get a job for a few years in acting. But for now, try to be in your local community plays, school plays, and see if you really like it.

I'm sure you have photography classes in high school for you to take, so take those if you have them to try to learn as much about photography as possible.

It seems to me like most of those are just hobbies, but there is nothing wrong with turning you life long hobby into a career! But please make sure that you want to do this for yourself, and you actually enjoy it enough that you can make it into a career. You don't want to go to college for it and than end up getting bored of it would you?

You still have 4 years to go, so you'll most likely change by the time your nearing college. So keep up your grades, and try as much extracurricular activities as possible.

Personally I didn't really worry about my college life til my junior year in HS. Don't feel pressured just yet! I think you and I are on the same boat. You see, I'm going to be a college freshman but I think I have a lot more to worry about. I'd say don't slack off your freshman year in HS, keep good grades but have fun. My advice wait until your junior year to think about things otherwise go for something your most passionate about. Just relax and enjoy HS. It's over before you know it!!!!!

well if your homeschooled it's going to be hard for us to tell you to get involved with clubs and such...but here's what i'd tell you about picking a college. It's always good to have some sort of plan for college but as a freshmen you don't need to stress all that much. If you know sort of what kid of school you would like to go to...

Here are some good questions to know.

  1. What sort of schools are you looking for? Liberal Arts, Pubic, Private, Technical?

  2. What learning setting do you do best in? Big classes or small classes? (teacher to student ratio)

  3. What are the requirments to get into these schools? Grades, ACT or SAT scores?

  4. $$$ how much is this going to run me? Can I get enough money to go to the school?

  5. Does it feel right?

For most of those questions you can do some research and some soul searching and get the answers, but the last is all on you. I suggest that you take campus tours with someone like your friends or your parents. I always right things that I'd like to know about the school down, be sure to have good questions. Once there just feel the vibe of the school. You never know which one might be right for you.

Okay so I'm a senior in high school and I'm busy with tons of stuff (Acting, two choirs, Chemistry Club, Ping Pong, I'm ASB secretary, SODA, DECA, and I'm really involved in school spirit), yet I still find time to do college research.  At your young age you need to enjoy high school, but also focus on your grades.  I would start really focusing on college near the end of your sophomore year though.  Keep up with all those activities, because it might pay off someday to have all these interest.

Trust me, I was the same way....and it doesnt help when you have a school conscelor always telling you "be prepared, get information now" but trust me, you dont have to really panic until your Junior year in highschool, and really all you have to do then is decide what COLLEGE you wish to go to, because a lot of colleges will let you pick you major, but you have basic classes that EVERYONE has to take, so you have another year of college to decide.

However, through-out your highschool years, you will be given tests and assignments and taking classes which will help you decide what you wish to be. If you like helping people and wish to impact a child life, go for teaching, and if you like history find a field for you!! Dont stress so much about it because trust me, you have time and as you grow older your majors will change....

I am glad to see that you have so much ambition to get ahead start on preperation for college. My son will be a freshmen this year as well. I have talked to his HS advisor as well as some of the Jr colleges around here. Heres a little advice that they told me: 1st - start taking the ACT's, you can take it as many times as you want and pick which score you want to use no matter how many times you take it. 2nd - check with some of your local Jr colleges to find out if you can start working on some of you basics, some Jr Colleges will allow you to start math and english classes, as well as check into C.L.E.P test. The advisors at the Jr Colleges here expressed that majority of the C.L.E.P. test cover classes that students take in HS. She said to try to take the C.L.E.P. test at the end of the year that you complete the class. I know that you are home schooled, thats why I think this will help you. Also, this can help you get a really good jump start on your credits. FYI: if you start at a Jr College and intend to go to a 4 year college, cordinate with the 4 year advisor to make sure that you take all the classes required for your degree at the 4 year college, so you don't take stuff that is a waste of time. Keep all documents that you and the advisors agree on and have them make copies for you of the stuff that they keep, so if for some reason down the road they are not there or things change within the college you have records of what was discussed. This has saved me from having to take classes over or not even discussed when I enrolled.

When I deceided to return to college, I was not sure what I was going to be when I grew-up, but I knew that I wanted the return on my investment to be worth the time. I turned to my grandmother for some sound advice and she told me to pick a career in something that I enjoy so much, that I would do it for free, and when I got paid to do it, my pay check would be the bonus. I loved working on computers, so I deceided to Major in Computer Science and I love going to work everyday. That makes a big difference. Plus look at it this way, whatever you pick for a career, more than likely you will spend approximately 25 + years doing it, so you don't pick something that you might bored with. Also, look at companies that hire in that industry to see what kind of employers you could possibly be work for. If you are still not sure, work on your basics that work for all degrees, math, english, history, etc, then try to get an intern position or even volunteer, just to get a chance to do that kind of work, or work around the environment. This will give you a heads up on whether or not you want to spend the money on school in this field. I hope that this helps. Good Luck!!!

Well it really just depends on what you love doing the most. Just take some time to think about each of those talents, and figure out which one you think is your favorite. You should be able to see yourself doing it for the rest of your life. If you think you are going to be tired of it a few years from now then it's probably not such a good idea to major in it. I also had this struggle my junior year because I had to choose between teaching and law. In the end, I decided on teaching because I can see myself being happy with that career
