Obama Earth Day Challenge Last Year - Have You Held Up Your End?

Obama Earth Day Challenge Last Year - Have You Held Up Your End?

United Press International via Yellowbrix

April 20, 2011

Last year U.S. President Barack Obama tossed a green gauntlet, challenging Americans to take action to better the environment in honor of Earth Day. Have you done your part to better the environment? Here’s a recap of what tasks President Obama challenged us to.

“I want you to take action — in your home or your community; at your school or your business — to improve our environment,” Obama said in a videotaped message.. “It can be as simple as riding the bus or the subway to work, making your home more energy efficient, or organizing your neighbors to clean up a nearby park.”

To help Americans come up with ideas about helping the environment, an “Earth Day” page of resources was posted on WhiteHouse.gov in conjunction with Obama’s challenge.

“In the end, it’s people like you — the small business owners and community leaders; the teachers and the students; the young people and the grandparents — who have made Earth Day so successful,” he said. “And it’s going to be up to you to make an even bigger difference over the next 40 years. So let’s get to work.”

The past is the past know is the time to make a differents, for one person can make a differents. If we all get together and try that would be like the people in Hatis the government didnt want to help but people. Every day people went down there to help just because it was the right thang to do. Put you self in the position were people thorwing trash in your yard and no matte how much you clean it keeps coming back. Thats why we need to make a differents, for the kid animals an well being.

Obama should not be that ignorant and he should learn from the past. In order to create more jobs he should think more about the environment. He should create jobs from cleaning the ocean, forests, and projects that help the earth just like President FDR did in the 1930's. Also creating nuclear plants does not help the environment it just pollutes it more. If we all work together we could make this a better place for us and for our future habitants

if those big multibillion oil business owners made a deal with the government we could all be all profiting off of going green like owning an electric powered car or using solar panels..oil will not last forever.

I think if wants us to change to being green there should be an incentive. I'm not sure with our economic situation as it is that many can even afford to "go green". But I guess it's the thought that counts.

What an amazing idea, fortunately enough, in American Samoa(where I live), our earth day started one week ago and it's still continuing...yay! Now my only hope is, that everyone will continue celebrating earth day cleaning up even after the official earth day is over....make it an earth month, or better yet earth year. lol...

This is a great Idea. Its great for our personal health and for the environment if we just put forth the effort and be a little more active in our community. We should walk or take public transport whenever possible. One thing that would be great is if we had a system like BART or FART all over the USA then we wouldn't have any excuse of "Its to far to travel without a car" or nonsense like that. If the USA could cut down on their fuel admissions we'd be doing the world a huge favor. Thanks for the encouragement Obama. Personally I'll keep praying that the country catches on and continue my efforts of not using a motored vehicle. All things are possible in God. So get out there and help our community.
