9. Volunteer

It feels good to give back. Colleges and universities are notorious for hooking students up with community service opportunities. From reading with local elementary school students to Adopt-a-Highway, there is something for every student to get involved in and get passionate about.

Volunteering pays. Employers aren’t just looking for good grades and extracurricular involvement. Taking the time to volunteer sets you apart from other applicants. Also, the non-for-profit sector is becoming a lucrative job market—volunteering with an organization could lead to a paid position after graduation.
