Master the Art of "Adulting"
How to learn the stuff that most grown-ups just seem to know about life.
You’re an intelligent, accomplished human being gifted with many various talents and skills. You’re educated – but in subjects you studied. But, what about the other stuff? What about the stuff that most “grown-ups” just seem to know about life? Enter The Adulting School. The school’s website features a tagline that reads, “You’re smart and capable – your education just didn’t provide you with all the skills you need.” Urban Dictionary defines “adulting” as a verb that means, “to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown-ups.”
And that’s exactly the basis for this school, where the school’s students learn how to successfully “adult” with the best of them. The school offers expert information on topics like financial basics, health and wellness, make-it and fix-it skills as well as relationships and community, there’s something just about everyone can learn. Online membership for The Adulting School community launched in February 2017. With enrollment you join a community of “adults” (or soon-to-be adults) and gain access to online lessons with experts on everything you need to know from budgeting to learning how to fold a fitted sheet.
They also offer social media groups, life hacks and local workshops so you can become an expert in “adulting” in no time. The school encourages that young adults “come here instead of calling your parents.” Founded by Rachel Weinstein and Katie Brunelle, the idea came to Weinstein, a psychotherapist, after she “had seen so many clients struggle with the lack of knowledge in doing so many "grown-up" things that she wanted to show them they weren't alone. But how?”
Weinstein joined forces with Brunelle to map out the school’s vision and mission, which is to “Bring support to those who are looking to gain the skills they need to be a successful adult. Do this so that the information is fun and not intimidating. Let all Adults-in-training feel empowered with their new knowledge. Successful adults mean a successful community for all,” as detailed on the web site. One thing everyone should know? There’s no age limit – and everyone can use a little extra knowledge. If you’re not sure that you need the school, take their quiz entitled, “What’s Your Adulting IQ?” to find out where you’re at and how far you need to go. So, no matter where you are in life, know that successfully “adulting” is just a quick click away. Learn more about The Adulting School.
