Do you have the tiger blood to keep up with Charlie Sheen for one summer? Mr. Sheen’s words – not ours.
That’s what the recently unemployed star of Two and a Half Men is asking of his new social media intern for the summer.
On March 7th, the actor tweeted, “I’m looking to hire a #winning INTERN with #TigerBlood. Apply here – http://bit.ly/hykQQF #TigerBloodIntern #internship #ad.” Within two minutes, the link had over 8,000 clicks, according to mashable.com. The rest of the job description is as follows:
Do you have #TigerBlood? Are you all about #Winning? Can you #PlanBetter than anyone else? If so, we want you on #TeamSheen as our social media #TigerBloodIntern!
This unique internship opportunity will allow a hard-working, self-motivated, creative, resourceful and social media savvy individual to work closely with Charlie Sheen in leveraging his social network. The internship will focus on executing a social media strategy that will build on the success Charlie Sheen has attained in setting the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to reach one million followers on Twitter. The #TigerBloodIntern is expected to be proactive, monitor the day-to-day activities on the major social media platforms, prepare for exciting online projects and increase Charlie’s base of followers.
You will learn how to promote and develop the social media network of Hollywood’s most trending celebrity.
It has since been uncovered that the tweet was a paid endorsement from Internships.com, which heralds itself as the largest internship marketplace in the world. And it’s no secret why they turned to Charlie Sheen for their first celebrity Twitter endorsement. Sheen set a Guiness World Record for most Twitter followers in the least amount of time when he started his Twitter account on March 1st, clocking in at 1 million followers over the course of 25 hours and 17 minutes, as reported by mashable.com.
The Wall Street Journal stated that the deal was garnered by Ad.ly, a small start-up company that negotiates celebrity endorsements on social media platforms. While previous endorsers include Kim Kardashian, 50 Cent and Snoop Dog, the Charlie Sheen deal is rumored to be the most lucrative in Ad.ly’s history, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Daily News reports that major celebrity endorsements through Ad.ly have netted over $10,000 for one tweet, and the Sheen tweet is said to have cost Internships.com much more.
While the internship opportunity seems bogus, it’s very real. Sheen is taking applications now and asks that applicants provide their name, email address and a 75-character statement on why they have the tiger blood to be the best possible social media intern. According to the internships.com posting, those applicants who made the cut for the second round will be notified by March 14th.
