Students Add Up Their Worst Gifts Received

Students Add Up Their Worst Gifts Received

By Leah Westfall

December 15, 2010

Horrific clothing, household items, secondhand things, unwanted gift certificates and coupons to classes we’d never take. We’ve all gotten holiday presents we swear we never asked for but some can be worse than others.

In a recent survey sent out to 527 Fastweb high school and college students we asked “What is the worst gift you’ve ever received?” The results were shocking, hilarious and all around a little pathetic. The following is a list of the top ten best (or worst!) actual responses.

• A wooden stick doll without any eyes.
• An Eggstractor.
• A used led pencil.
• Toilet paper.
• A can of sardines.
• Coal.
• A calendar for 2009 that was given in December 2009.
• Q-tips.
• A box of gum.
• A dead mouse.

When we asked the same students what they really wanted this holiday season 6% said a new car, 12% wanted the newest technology gadgets, 20% wanted gift certificates and an overwhelming 54% were hoping for money for college.

Don’t fall victim to bad gifts this year, tell your friends and family the gift you could really use, money for school, and be sure to thank them for contributing to your education and your future.

Our family doesn't give gag gifts, but my sis and i pull together for our little brothers gift and make it as hard to open as possible. this year we got him a wii game and I wrapped it in masking tape and then did 6 layers of newspaper, and 2 layers of wrapping paper and 1 layer of the expensive plasticy wrapping paer. Then I taped every possible spot to get a grip to rip it down. He had a lot of fun with it. When i brought it out he tried to see what i had done to it this year. :D

This year for Christmas I asked my mom for a new pair of shoes. Not just any shoes, Jordans. So she took one of my Jordan boxes and took two left shoes that I already had and put them in there and wrapped it up. When I unwrapped it I was so happy. When I went to check what they looked like I saw my dirty vans and started crying while everybody was laughing at me. My mom plays a joke on someone every year, I should've known it was my year. Ahah.

When I was in the sixth grade, I asked for a turtleneck sweatshirt. Not only did I not get that turtleneck, but my grandma had an aneurysm on Christmas morning, and was taken away to the hospital for brain surgery. Talk about a bad Christmas present.

I remember one year I kept complaining about always having my hands being cold. So one day, my mother was sick of it, and decided for Christmas to give me mittens, I was excited to see they were mittens...until I opened the box. The mittens were black, and had snowmen stick out of the mittens themselves, and on the corners were little red bells the jingled when you walked with them...I felt if I were to wear these mittens, I would feel so tacky, so I decided to buy myself a pair, after Christmas, and give them away to someone else who might like bells on their mittens.

The worst gift i ever gotten was a pack of OLD SPICE PURE SPORT with the shower gel all of that.I mean it's not that i'm unthankful because i really do appreciate it , it's just that i feel like if they were calling me dirty considering the fact that it's almost the end of the year. LOL OH WELL
i doubt the gift had a second meaning to it because i'm a clean athletic guy and i do take care of myself.:)

The worst gift that I got was an ugly strechy shirt form my grandma. It wasn't a plain and simple shirt, instead it had a kitten holding a blue flower in her mouth. I wasn't 6 years old when I recieved this shirt either, I beleive I was about 15 years old. I had to pretend that I liked the shirt too. This particular gift didn't even have a gift reciept so that I could return it. I love my grandma but next time I hope she includes a gift reciept.

The worst gift I have gotten was as set of used books that were 4 years old from my mother in law and I never read the authors books. I felt that I did something wrong and she told me it was because I was not wortth getting anything for. I made a blanket for her because she was cold all the time too. She never liked me at all so I was trying to be nice to her.

The worst gift I had one Christmas was nothing. I was upset because I was always telling my parents that I all I wanted was money and they couldn't even give me that.
