In-Depth Description
Schiller International University

The University

Schiller International University (SIU) was founded in 1964. Although originally intended for American students, the University soon attracted men and women from other nations and is now an international, coeducational, four-year institution with seven locations in six countries and alumni from more than 150 countries. SIU prepares students for careers in business and management, multinational organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and the social services as well as for further study. Through enrollment in both practical and theoretical courses and through discussions with instructors and classmates with multicultural backgrounds, students gain firsthand knowledge of business and cultural relations among the peoples of the world. In addition, SIU students have the unique opportunity to transfer between SIU campuses, without losing any credits, while continuing their chosen program of study. The language of instruction at all campuses is English. The current enrollment is 1,400 students.

SIU students are housed in University residence halls, with selected host families, or in private rooms or apartments. Residence hall accommodations are available at the London and Florida campuses and in Heidelberg, Strasbourg, and Leysin. At all campuses not requiring on-campus residence, or in the event that all residence halls are full, trained staff members assist students in securing housing in the private market or with families. Many Schiller academic programs are also available by distance learning.

SIU offers the Master of Arts degree in international hotel and tourism management and the Master of Arts degree in international relations and diplomacy with an optional specialization in international business or European studies; the Master of Arts degree in communication; the Master of Business Administration degree; the Master of Business Administration degree in financial planning, hotel and tourism management, international business, international hotel and tourism management, and IT management; and the Master of International Management in international business. SIU also offers the Master of Science degree in computer engineering on the Florida campus.

Schiller International University is an accredited member of the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, which is recognized by the United States Department of Education as a national institutional accrediting agency. SIU degrees correspond to the American system of university education.
