The University

Pace University was founded by two brothers, Homer and Charles Pace, in 1906. Their vision is reflected in Paces motto Opportunitas. A comprehensive, diversified, coeducational institution, Pace provides an array of opportunities for learning, living, and working at two distinct campus locations: metropolitan New York City and suburban Pleasantville, New York. More than eighty majors and 3,000 courses of study are offered through five undergraduate schools and colleges: the Lubin School of Business, the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Computer Science and Information Systems, the School of Education, and the Lienhard School of Nursing. Pace University is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Many student-led clubs and organizations are active on the campus, including the Model United Nations, Black Students Organization, the Chinese Club, the Caribbean Students Association, and the Collegiate Italian American Organization. Pace also offers many campus activities, including student government associations, fraternities, sororities, two campus newspapers, two literary magazines, two yearbooks, and two campus broadcasting systems. Athletic facilities are available for students, and intercollegiate sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, equestrian, football, golf, lacrosse, womens soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

In 200708, approximately 8,500 undergraduate students enrolled at Pace University. The student body is diverse, representing forty-eight states, five U.S. territories, and more than 100 countries.

Location

Pace University is a multicampus institution with campuses in both New York City and Pleasantville, New York. Both locations are within reach of cultural, business, and social resources and opportunities. The New York City campus is located in the heart of downtown Manhattan, adjacent to the financial district and City Hall and within a short walking distance of Wall Street and the South Street Seaport. Lincoln Center, Broadway theaters, museums, and many world-famous attractions are minutes away by public transportation. Located 35 miles north of New York City, the Pleasantville campus is located in suburban New York and includes an environmental center, riding stables, and a new athletic center. The town of Pleasantville houses gifted resident artisans and local musical and theater groups, and museums surround the campus. The campus is within easy reach of the resort and ski areas of the Catskills, Berkshires, and Poconos as well as all that the New York City area has to offer. Both campuses are accessible by car and public transportation.

Students can take courses at either campus, and housing is available in both New York City and Pleasantville. Residence facilities feature Internet connectivity, voicemail, and cable TV access.

Majors and Degrees

The following programs are offered at both the New York City and Pleasantville campuses. The Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) is offered with majors in finance, accounting-general, accounting-public, information systems, international management, management (with concentrations in business, entrepreneurship, hotel management, and human resources), and marketing (with concentrations in advertising and promotion, database marketing, e-business and interactive media, international marketing, and management). In addition, five-year combined B.B.A./M.B.A and B.B.A./M.S. programs in public accounting are available for qualified students. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is granted in art history; childhood education; communication; computer science; earth science; economics; English; English language and literature; environmental studies; French; history; language and cognition/childhood education; liberal studies; philosophy and religious studies; political science; psychology; social science; sociology/anthropology; and Spanish. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is offered in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, criminal justice, early childhood development, information systems, mathematics, medical technology, nursing, professional communication studies, professional computer studies, teaching adolescents, and technology systems.

Certain programs are available only on one campus. The B.S. programs in speech communication and forensic science and the B.F.A. program in theater are offered only at the New York City campus. The B.A. programs in biological sciences, communications, English and communications, global studies, human services, Italian, and teaching adolescents Italian and the B.S. programs in art, physics, and teaching adolescents physics are available at the Pleasantville campus only.

Pace University offers two 5-year engineering programs in cooperation with Manhattan College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In one program, students attend Pace for three years and Manhattan College for two years, leading to a B.S. degree in science with a concentration in physics from Pace and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan. In the other program, students attend Pace for three years and either Manhattan College or Rensselaer for two years. Upon successful completion, students receive a B.S. degree in chemistry from Pace and either a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (B.C.E.) in chemical engineering from Manhattan or a B.S. degree in engineering from Rensselaer.

Academic Programs

At Pace University, the core curriculum emphasizes educational breadth and civic engagement. Students enroll in prerequisite courses in the first two years and major courses and electives in the junior and senior years. Selective academic programs in the University are preparatory for professional training in dentistry, law, medicine, and veterinary science.

The Cooperative Education Program is nationally recognized and offers qualified students the opportunity to gain experience in their field of study while earning a four-year degree. Students can choose full-time, part-time, or summer positions working in an area directly related to their major course of study.

Academic Facilities

The Pace University Library is a comprehensive teaching library and student learning center, a virtual library that combines strong core collections with ubiquitous access to global Internet resources to support broad and diversified curricula. Reciprocal borrowing and access accords, traditional interlibrary loan services, and commercial document delivery options supplement the aggregate library. Pace offers Instructional Services librarians, a state-of-the-art electronic classroom, digital reference services, and multimedia applications. Paces computer resource centers are linked to high-speed data networks and feature sophisticated hardware and software to facilitate active learning. Pace supports high-speed Internet and Internet2 access on every campusresidence facilities are wired, and most public areas are enabled for wireless connectivity. Full-motion videoconference facilities enable remote delivery of instruction between campus sites for synchronous learning applications.

Costs

For the 200809 academic year, undergraduate tuition is $30,632 per year for full-time study. The cost for an on-campus double-occupancy room is $8000$10,000, with different housing options available. The cost of the meal plan is approximately $3600. Additional fees are approximately $700, and books and supplies average $1000 per year.

Financial Aid

Pace University strives to provide opportunities to students of diverse backgrounds and varied circumstances and is committed to offering financial aid to students to the fullest extent of its resources. Scholarships are awarded to students in recognition of superior academic achievement and are available for full-time and part-time study. Paces comprehensive student financial aid assistance program includes scholarships, student loans (federal and alternative plans), and tuition payment plans. Pace participates in all federal financial aid programs and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and honors awards from other states incentive grant programs.

Faculty

The undergraduate faculty at Pace is outstanding. Senior staff members, including department heads, teach freshman- and sophomore-level courses as well as upper-division classes. Approximately 90 percent of full-time faculty members hold a doctoral degree; many act as professional consultants to other educational institutions, businesses, and governments. Adjunct faculty members pursue professional careers while teaching their specialty part-time. Undergraduate classes are not taught by teaching assistants.

Admission Requirements

A minimum of 16 units from an accredited secondary school, or equivalent, are required. Academic subjects in high school should be distributed as follows: 4 units of English, 34 units of college-preparatory mathematics, 2 units of foreign language, 4 units of history/social science, 2 units of laboratory science, and 45 units of academic electives. It is recommended that students applying to the Lubin School o.f Business complete 4 units of preparatory mathematics. Applicants to the Lienhard School of Nursing should complete 34 units of science (2 of which should be laboratory science) and 34 units of college-preparatory mathematics. All applicants are required to take either the SAT or ACT examination and have results forwarded to the University. International students are required to take the TOEFL.
