Nazareth College of Rochester

The College

Nazareth College is an independent, coeducational, comprehensive college that offers career programs solidly based in the liberal arts. Its suburban campus is located in Pittsford in western upstate New York, approximately 7 miles from the city of Rochester. Founded in 1924, the College has conferred more than 27,000 baccalaureate and masters degrees. Of the more than 3,200 men and women enrolled at Nazareth, more than 2,000 are undergraduates.

Twenty-two buildings of traditional and contemporary design are conveniently situated on the Colleges 150-acre campus. The Otto A. Shults Community Center, housing a 20,000-square-foot gymnasium, the student union, a multifaith religious center, a 25-meter swimming pool, the fitness center, and student personnel offices, is the hub of on-campus student life. The resident students, constituting two-thirds of the undergraduate population, are housed in eleven separate residence halls. As an alternative to traditional campus housing, foreign language majors may live in La Maison Franaise, which is maintained by the language department. The Casa Italiana, Casa Hispana, and German Cultural Center serve as facilities for social, cultural, and academic programs reflecting Italian, Spanish, and German heritages, respectively.

Intercollegiate athletics are available in the areas of mens and womens basketball, equestrian, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and cross-country, volleyball, and womens field hockey and softball.

Rochester is the world headquarters of Eastman Kodak and Bausch & Lomb and the site of a major Xerox facility. Student Government

The Undergraduate Association of Nazareth College is the vehicle through which students can express the need for and initiate change within the College community. It is also responsible for the disbursement of funds, generated from the undergraduate activities fee, to various activities and social/cultural clubs.

Admission Requirements

Nazareth College welcomes applicants of all ages and educational backgrounds. Students of any race, color, sex, or national or ethnic origin are admitted to all of the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the College. Nazareth College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and sports and other school-administered programs.

Recommended academic preparation includes courses in English, college-preparatory mathematics, social studies, a foreign language, and science. Although the Admissions Committee gives primary consideration to academic achievement and potential for collegiate success, it also considers talent in art, drama, or music and involvement in cocurricular activities. A personal interview, although not required, is strongly recommended, as it allows the applicant to view the campus and facilities, talk with students and faculty members, and meet with an admissions counselor.

Nazareth College is pleased to consider applications from students in good standing at accredited two- and four-year colleges and universities. A minimum GPA of 2.5 or better is expected. Transfer applicants who hold, or will hold prior to registration, the Associate in Arts (A.A.) or the Associate in Science (A.S.) degree from a fully accredited college may transfer a maximum of 60 semester hours of credit and enter with full junior status. Transfer applicants who hold, or will hold prior to registration, the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or the Associate of Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) degree from a fully accredited college or institute will have these credits evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Careful advisement on tailoring programs for holders of these degrees is offered by Nazareth College.
