In-Depth Description
Molloy College

The College

In 1955, 44 students became part of an exciting new tradition in higher education on Long Island. As the first freshman class of Molloy College, these young students made a commitment to academic excellence. So did the College, which had a distinguished faculty of 15 and a library containing 5,000 books.

Today, Molloy College has become one of the most respected four-year private coeducational institutions of higher learning in the area. It provides academic programs in both day and evening divisions. The Molloy population consists of recent high school graduates, transfer students, and graduate students. Molloy College is accredited by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and its programs in nursing, social work, and education are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, the Council on Social Work Education, and NCATE.

Molloy College provides an intimate and personal atmosphere; it encourages the 3,700 students to develop close working relationships with the faculty. The student body represents many ethnic and socioeconomic groups; to meet their varied needs, the College offers more than fifty undergraduate majors and programs.

The key word at the College is involvement. Student-run clubs and organizations offer a variety of planned activities. Student publications, which include the yearbook, a literary magazine, and a newspaper, provide an outlet for students who want to share their literary and journalistic talents.

Molloy College offers opportunities for students to exercise their leadership abilities, contribute their special talents, utilize their initiative, and expand their social horizons through the variety of activities made conveniently available to them. Athletics, an integral part of student life, are represented at Molloy College on the varsity level. Womens teams are offered in basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. Mens teams include baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and soccer. Cross-country is offered for men and women. These teams compete in the NCAA Division II, the ECAC, and the NYCAC. The equestrian team holds membership in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.
