The University
At Tech youll belong. Tech is family. That is how one graduate described the Louisiana Tech University experience. With a reputation for offering a private-college atmosphere at a public university, this selective-admissions university is dedicated to challenging its students through the efforts of caring faculty members who are passionate about teaching, advising, and research. Founded in 1894, Tech offers more than eighty undergraduate majors and a wide variety of graduate degrees from within thirty-one masters and ten doctoral programs. Tech has the highest retention and graduation rate in the University of Louisiana system.
At this campus, 1,592 freshmen, of a total of 10,607 students, thrive in a safe and supportive environment. Collaborative research opportunities enhance learning alongside extracurricular and NCAA Division I athletic programs that enrich student life. Techs campus brings together students from every state in the nation and seventy other countries.
The pedestrian-friendly campus revolves around the oak-shaded Quad and its gracious gardens, beckoning benches, and splashing Lady of the Mist fountain. Other campus highlights include a brick walkway that bears the names of all 72,000 Tech graduates, the newly rebuilt Hale Hall (where admissions and architecture are housed), the sixteen-story Wyly Tower of Learning, the cutting-edge Institute for Micromanufacturing, and the striking Thomas Assembly Center.
The 255-acre campus is also home to Tolliver Halls state-of-the-art cyber caf for students, a large T-shaped swimming pool, and the Lambright Sports Center. The Lambright Sports Center houses basketball and racquetball courts, sauna facilities, weight rooms, and an indoor track. The facility includes a nine-hole golf course.
In addition to ten residence halls, including one for honors students, and a new on-campus apartment-style community, campus life is fueled by excellent academic programs, 160 student organizations, and fourteen varsity sports. Students are admitted free of charge to all Tech sporting events.
Tech is a state-supported university that is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Location
Louisiana Tech makes its home in the north-central Louisiana city of Ruston, which sits at the intersection of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 167. At the Career Center, students can schedule on-campus interviews with employers, get career and graduate school guidance, search job listings, attend resume and interview workshops, and meet company recruiters on Career Days. Tech awards semester hours on a quarter system. The fall, winter, and spring quarters equal two semesters.
Off-Campus Programs

Four-year academic merit scholarships for talented entering freshmen range from $1000 to full tuition and additional incentives. Of the nearly 400 faculty members, 70 percent hold the doctorate or equivalent degree. In addition to being excellent professors and researchers, the faculty members are known for their practical experience outside of academia. Software engineers, civil engineers, published authors, architects, medical doctors, pilots, and other professionals bring hands-on expertise to the classroom to enhance learning. The student-faculty ratio is 23:1.
Student Government
Louisiana Techs Student Government Association (SGA) serves as the official student voice to the administration, the Louisiana Board of Regents, the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, and the state legislature. Its mission is to continually represent the interests and opinions of students, increase student decision-making power, create and promote student leadership opportunities, improve campus life through the creation and continuation of effective student services, and support students in academic and community endeavors.

Freshman applicants must graduate from an approved high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA achieved in at least 17.5 units of prerequisite study, including 4 units of English, 3 units of mathematics (2 of algebra and 1 of geometry or a higher-level math for which algebra is a prerequisite), 3 units of science (biology, chemistry, and 1 other unit of science), 1 additional unit of mathematics or science, 3 units of social science (of which 1 unit must be U.S. history), 2 units of the same foreign language, one fine arts survey, and one computer literacy course. Otherwise, students must rank in the top 25 percent of their graduating class, have a minimum ACT composite score of 23 or combined SAT score of 1060, and require no more than one remedial course. No student with an ACT composite less than 15 will be admitted.

International applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all course work and an official TOEFL score of 500 or greater on the paper-based test or a score of 173 or higher on the computerized test. Tech must receive the TOEFL score within two years of the test date. A waiver of the TOEFL may be possible if the international student has earned at least 24 hours from another approved U.S. university.
All students are encouraged to apply. The University may admit students not meeting all stated requirements. In such cases, the admission decision is affected by the students potential for success and the need to enhance the Universitys population.
Transfer students with fewer than 18 semester hours of course work must meet the same requirements as entering freshmen and be eligible to reenter the institution from which they transferred. Students with 18 hours or more must have a minimum 2.25 GPA on all transfer work.
