JULY 11, 2008 -- Adrianna Bayer started late in the game, but came from behind to take the $4,000 grand prize! Additionally, everyone who voted in the contest was entered into a $1,000 drawing. Debbie (AKA "misfit2008") was our lucky winner, walking away with $1,000!
A Master's student at Humboldt State University in California, Adrianna studies English with an emphasis on Chicana Studies.
Because of the health hardships of several family members, Adrianna said she has had to support herself through college.
"I realized that if I was to go to college, I would need to pay for my education myself," Adrianna said, noting she won several scholarships on FastWeb that put her through undergraduate school. "Since discovering FastWeb, I have not felt that money stands in the way of my education."
Adrianna said she got the votes by contacting family, friends, co-workers, her students and other associates and urging them to vote for her -- and to tell everyone they know to do the same. Adrianna won with more than 18,600 votes!
"I also put a ton of effort into promoting myself anywhere that I could, I posted bulletins on MySpace, journals, my online book clubs and I got on two radio stations," she said. "As time went by, I became more and more inspired to seek out new voters because I was amazed by the kindness and generosity of everyone voting for me."
Adrianna said she is applying to PhD programs and plans to teach.
