FAQ: Scholarships

I'd like to add more scholarships to my list and/or find a specific scholarship, but I'm unable to do it. Why not?
The awards listed on your Search Results tab are the awards that match your profile. If you are looking for a specific scholarship, and it is not listed on your Results tab, then your profile does not currently match the scholarship requirements. You may want to verify your profile is fully updated, so that it is the most accurate representation of your current situation. This will help locate all available awards in FastWeb's database that match your profile.

You can update your FastWeb profile here. If you update your profile, and still can not locate the award, you may send an email to the FastWeb Webmaster via the customer service webform and include the name of the award you are trying to locate.

How do I apply for the scholarship in my results?
To apply for a scholarship in your results list, click on the award for which you'd like to apply. Then, check under the "Additional Information" heading for instructions. Generally, you will have to visit the sponsor's website to download an application, apply online or find a mailing address to request more information. If this is the case, FastWeb will supply the link for you under the heading, "Website."

Any other information needed to apply for a scholarship will be found under the "Additional Information" heading. If you are having trouble figuring out how to apply for a given scholarship or the link isn't working properly, you can report it via our webform.

Please do not send application materials to FastWeb. We are unable to process scholarship applications or essays for other sponsors. Any applications sent to FastWeb for outside sponsors will not be returned and we cannot guarantee that we will forward an application on to a sponsor.

How can I delete/replace a scholarship from my results list?
To delete a scholarship, when viewing the "Scholarship Detail" page of a particular scholarship, click the "Discard" icon, which you can find at the top and bottom of the page. Clicking the icon will move the scholarship into the "Discards" section of your results.

To replace a scholarship, click on the "Discards" tab from the Scholarship Opportunities page. Click on the scholarship you would like back on your list and click "Restore."

Why did I receive a scholarship that has a deadline more than six months away?
While we provide all students with as many immediate opportunities as available, we also provide scholarship information for many awards as much as twelve months ahead of time. We do this to ensure that you can develop aggressive immediate and long-term scholarship strategies.

How do I perform a new scholarship search?

Anytime that you update your FastWeb profile, FastWeb will perform a new search to find scholarships that match your profile. If you can't find a certain scholarship even after you have updated your profile, you may no longer qualify for the scholarship or it may not be currently available.

These awards don't exactly match my situation. Why not?
The awards in your Search Results Page match the profile information that you have provided. FastWeb does its best to match students as closely as possible with applicable awards. Many specific fields of study overlap and become included in other majors. For this reason, you may find that you have received a broader array of awards. You can always update your profile by clicking here.

How do I know if I've won a scholarship?
If you are a scholarship winner, you will be contacted by the sponsor directly. In general, a scholarship sponsor will contact you via phone call, postal mail or email. FastWeb will not be the party to notify you if you have won a scholarship.

Due to the cost of notifying all applicants, scholarship providers usually notify applicants individually when they win a scholarship. If you have not been notified by any of the sponsors of the awards you applied for, then you probably have not won anything yet. You may want to follow up with each individual sponsor as to the status of the award for which you applied.

Yes. Whether you've been out of school for a few years or a few decades, FastWeb's database has scholarships available for returning students seeking to go back to school. Check below for returning student FAQs:

GPA: Many students returning to college do not recall their GPA the last time they were enrolled. For FastWeb purposes, an estimation of your last GPA is acceptable. Click here for more information on how to calculate your GPA.

Year in school: Enter the academic year you fully completed the last time you were enrolled. If you have taken classes at multiple schools or dropped out and don't remember what year you were, estimate your year in school to the best of your ability.

College and Major: If you aren't enrolled and/or don't know what you will be studying, enter your prospective college and/or prospective major (or area of academic study).

Does FastWeb have scholarships for international students?
Yes, but only if you are planning to study in the U.S. as an international student. If you are not planning to study in the United States, you will not be able to use the FastWeb service. Below are some tips that may help you complete your profile:

Phone number: If you do not have a U.S. telephone number, you may leave this field blank.

GPA: If you do not have a traditional American grade point average, you will need to approximate your unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale and answer accordingly. Estimate your GPA based on our chart which you can find here.

Test scores: If you have not taken the SAT or ACT, leave those fields blank. They are not necessary to complete your profile.
