The College
Mount Marty College (MMC), an academic community in the Catholic Benedictine liberal arts tradition, prepares students for a contemporary world of work, service to the human community, and personal growth. Founded in 1936 as a Benedictine, Catholic liberal arts college by the Sisters of Saint Benedict of Yankton, South Dakota, the College is named in memory of Catholic Bishop Martin Marty. The bishop came to Dakota Territory in 1876 as a Benedictine missionary to the Native Americans.
Mount Marty College includes three campuses in Watertown, Sioux Falls, and Yankton, South Dakota. The Watertown campus offers a variety of degree programs that are in high demand in that area. The Sioux Falls campus is home to MMC's nurse anesthesia graduate program. The Yankton campus is the main residential campus. The total student population of the three campuses in fall 2004 was 1,170 students, with 600 at the Yankton campus.
The primary emphasis at Mount Marty College is the development of the total individual. That focus includes intellectual competence, professional and personal skills, and a composite of moral, spiritual, and social values. Service to human community is a reflection of the strong Benedictine values of the College, which include a strong work ethic and personal development in each student. Mount Marty is on the leading edge of instruction and learning, as defined by student achievement and the College's excellent job placement and graduate school rates, which are currently 94 percent and 100 percent, respectively.

Mount Marty has more than fifty student clubs and organizations, including varsity athletic teams, intramural events, performing and fine arts, trips, musical organizations, the student newspaper, and retreats.
The Yankton campus includes housing for students, dining facilities, a bookstore, and recreation facilities. Entertainment on campus may include theater events, guest speakers, art exhibits, and much more. Other services available at the College include free tutoring, professional career counseling, health services, 24-hour computer access, and religious services at Bishop Marty Chapel. As a member of NAIA and the Great Plains Athletic Conference, Mount Marty College is also host to intercollegiate athletics, including men's and women's basketball, cross-country, soccer, and track and field; women's softball and volleyball; and men's baseball.

Location
Mount Marty College is located on the bluffs of the Missouri River in Yankton, South Dakota (population 15,000). A thriving community, Yankton offers a variety of work and cultural activities and is home to one of the best-developed river recreation areas in South Dakota. Yankton is located within 1 hours of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; within 3 hours of Omaha, Nebraska; and within 1 hour of Sioux City, Iowa. The main highways into Yankton include U.S. Highway 81 and South Dakota Highway 50 via Interstates 90 and 29.
Yankton is widely known for the popular recreational activities available at the Lewis & Clark Lake, which is within minutes of the Mount Marty campus. The available activities include swimming, boating, fishing, waterskiing, hiking, biking, dining, and much more. In this prosperous community, students find many recreation, shopping, dining, and cultural opportunities.
Majors and Degrees
Mount Marty College offers a Bachelor of Arts in accounting, applied technology management, behavioral science, biology, business administration, chemistry, computer science, criminal justice, elementary education, English, forensic accounting, forensic science, graphic arts, history, information technology, math, music, psychology, recreation management, religious studies, secondary education, selected studies, and special education.
Bachelor of Science degrees are awarded in clinical laboratory science, nursing, radiologic technology, and selected studies.
Associate of Arts degrees are offered in accounting, business administration, criminal justice, religious studies, and selected studies.
Minors include accounting, art, biology, business administration, chemistry, computer science, criminal justice, English, environmental science, French, history, math, music, philosophy, physical education and recreation, political science, psychology, religious studies, sociology, Spanish, and speech and theater.
Preprofessional degrees are offered in a variety of disciplines, including chiropractic studies, dentistry, law, medicine, mortuary science, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and veterinary science.
Academic Programs
Mount Marty College operates throughout the calendar year with the usual nine-month academic year and summer sessions held May through August. The academic year includes a fall semester that commences in September and ends in December, a spring semester that commences in January and ends in May, and three summer sessions held in May, June, and July. The curriculum is scheduled in such a manner that a full-time student with an average workload may graduate with a bachelor's degree in four years.
Degree programs are enhanced with internships, extracurricular activities, outreach programs, clinical assignments, professional and industry visits, and firsthand experience.
Academic Facilities
All classes at Mount Marty make use of state-of-the-art technology systems that give students the opportunity to get the most out of their courses. Laptop computers are provided to each full-time student. Mount Marty's wireless campus provides easy access to computer applications, the Internet, and online assignments. The world is at the student's fingertips with MMC's wireless campus. Laptops, smart classrooms, and wireless connections across the campus are just some of the ways in which a student can take advantage of the latest technology.
Mount Marty's 24-hour computer access, convenient library hours, and study areas offer students ample opportunity to further their studies. A tutoring program provides assistance through peers and instructors to keep students on track in the classroom. Well-equipped laboratories with professional-level instruments also assist students in developing career skills in line with the industry.
The Scholastica Learning Center is new to Mount Marty College. This facility houses the library, academic achievement center, computer and distance learning center, Cyber Caf, and the oratory.
Costs
The 200405 costs were $13,256 for tuition and $4764 for room and board, which included a meal plan, phone, cable, and Internet service. There is a program support fee of $1680, which includes the use of a laptop, parking, student activities, a fitness center, a tutoring center, and counseling, placement, and health services. The approximate cost for books is $600, and personal expenses cost approximately $800.
Financial Aid
Mount Marty College offers institutional and federal aid to 99 percent of its students. Mount Marty offers a vast array of scholarship and other aid opportunities to students. Awards ranging from several hundred dollars to full tuition are awarded as a result of interviews conducted during Scholarship Day. Other scholarships are awarded prior to and after Scholarship Day based on high academic achievement as well as athletic, musical, and theatrical talent.
MMC is dedicated to making high-quality education affordable. Mount Marty has several financial aid opportunities to acknowledge community service, outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and talent. Last year, the College gave more than $12.2 million in aid through scholarships, grants, loans, and employment. An average financial aid package for a freshman was more than $12,343. The priority deadline for financial aid is March1. Mount Marty offers Presidential Scholarships, Trustee Scholarships, Deans Scholarships, Benedictine Scholarships, academic scholarships, Catholic Scholarships, MMC grants, athletic scholarships, talent scholarships, and several federal programs. The deadline for many academic scholarships is February1.
Faculty
With campuses in Yankton, Watertown, and Sioux Falls, Mount Marty College employs 107 faculty members. Faculty members, not graduate students, teach all courses, so students learn from professional experts. The faculty-student ratio is 1:12, which enhances student interaction with faculty members.
Student Government
The Student Government Association at Mount Marty is composed of executive officers, student senate, and committees. The purpose of this association is to promote student activities and to advance the welfare of all students. Student government activities include Family Weekend, Homecoming, dances, live entertainment, and intramural activities.
Admission Requirements
Admission to Mount Marty College is open to students of all faiths, regardless of age, sex, race, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, veteran status, or physical ability. The admissions process is ongoing, and applicants are accepted based on academic record, experiences, and potential for growth. Applicants are eligible for admission if they have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.0 and achieve a minimum ACT composite score of 18 or SAT score of 850. Applications for admission are available at the Mount Marty Web site listed below or by calling the Admissions Office. Students may visit the campus at any time by contacting the Admissions Office.
Application and Information
To be considered for enrollment, students must complete an application for admission and provide high school transcripts and official ACT or SAT scores. A nonrefundable fee of $35 is required before students may register for classes. If students apply online, the application fee is deferred until registration. Transfer students should provide transcripts from their previous college as well as their high school.
