Founded in 1868 as a Presbyterian seminary, Bloomfield College (BC) is an independent, four-year, nonsectarian liberal arts college enrolling more than 2,200 men and women from all over the world. The College's mission is to prepare students to attain academic, personal, and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society. Bloomfield College offers programs in the liberal arts and sciences, creative arts and technology, and professional studies, which include accounting, business administration, computer information systems, criminal justice, education, game development, Internet technology, nursing, prechiropractic, and the sciences. Bloomfield is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the New Jersey Board of Nursing. The College is chartered by the state of New Jersey, and its academic programs are approved by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education. The accounting program is a Registered Accounting Curriculum for Public Accountancy in the state of New Jersey and meets the state's educational requirements for candidates applying to sit for the CPA examination.

With more than thirty-five organizations to choose from, students have many opportunities to engage in cocurricular programs that enrich their educational experience. In addition to student government, activities include the Nursing Student Association, the Association of Latin American Students, the International Student Association, and a variety of departmental clubs and ethnic and social organizations. Campus publications include In Print, the College yearbook, and Common Ground, the honors literary magazine. The College Center is the social and recreational focus of the College community. Meeting rooms, a snack bar, lounges, a new Internet-based gaming center, and the Office of Co-Curricular Programs are all located there. Also located in the College Center, the bookstore is a convenient place to buy textbooks, school supplies, gifts, clothes, snacks, and personal items.

Bloomfield College has a full program of intercollegiate and intramural sports and recreational activities. Men's intercollegiate sports are baseball, basketball, cross-country, and soccer. In addition to general on-campus housing, the College provides special residence halls for first-year students. Theme houses are also available on campus. The Center for Academic Development offers individual tutoring and group workshops to all students. Academic advising is ongoing, and students meet with their adviser before registering each semester. Admission Requirements

Bloomfield College admits qualified applicants who demonstrate the motivation, desire, and potential to benefit from and contribute to programs of study in the liberal arts and sciences, creative arts and technology, and professional studies. Once admitted, students are placed according to their academic preparation and achievement. Bloomfields admission criteria remain unaffected by the new SAT format. The College, like many other area colleges, is waiting to assess the true value and impact of the new writing section of the SAT on the first cohort of students to experience it and will then determine its role in the admission process.

Applicants may also spend a day on campus attending classes and talking with students, faculty members, and administrators about academic programs and student activities as well as the issues of admission and financial assistance.
