NRCS Tribal Scholars Program

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Tribal Scholars Program is open to degree-seeking students accepted for enrollment in a tribal college or university. You must be a U.S. citizen and study biological sciences (natural resources field), soil conservation, soil science, agricultural engineering or civil engineering on a full-time basis to be eligible for this renewable program. Scholars must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA for their first academic term and a minimum 3.0 GPA for all subsequent terms, and complete a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work before completion of, or concurrently with, the course requirements prior to conversion into the permanent workforce. Participants must provide one year of service to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for every year of support received. Students accepted at two-year institutions may also be required to transfer to a four-year institution.
