The Against the Grain Artistic Scholarship is available to high school seniors and full – time college students of Asian and / or Pacific Islander ethnicity. You must be pursuing a major in the performing / visual arts, journalism, and / or mass communications and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. You must also demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities.

Dr. Walter W. Ristow Prize

Award Amount: $1,000

The Dr. Walter W. Ristow Prize is open to undergraduate, graduate, and first- year postdoctoral students attending colleges or universities anywhere in the world. You must submit a research paper or bibliographic study (7,500 word limit) related to the history of cartography. In addition to a cash award, the winner will receive a one- year membership in the Washington Map Society and have his/ her paper published in “The Portolan,” the journal of the Washington Map Society.

The Andrew Flusche Scholarship Contest is available to high school seniors and students currently enrolled in a college or university. You must create a public service advertisement video (PSA) which raises awareness of the severity of the consequences of drunk driving among your peers to qualify for this award. The video must be uploaded to YouTube and be no longer than three minutes long.

The Clubs of America Scholarship Award is available to currently enrolled students who have a minimum GPA of 3.0. You must submit an essay of at least 600 words about your career aspirations and how your current course load will help you achieve success. YouTube video submissions are also accepted and should be no longer than five minutes.

The CKSF Scholarships are available to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in the U.S. You must register to participate in scholarship quizzes that test your knowledge of topics ranging from general “common knowledge” to specific academic subjects, books, websites, and even movies. You will be scored based on a combination of time and accuracy. Students with the highest scores at the end of each competition win.
